With NSD around the corner, I figured it would a good time to look ahead on what to expect in the future

This class is currently ranked #8 in the country and it adds and fills many of this teams needs, in the circle and at the plate. It has one of the top pitchers in the 2018 class and has a lot of power hitters and other dynamic players.

Georgia Clark- 1B/Catcher

Clark plays for Texas Bombers organization. Currently ranked by FloSoftball as #17 ranked player in the country. Known as a dynamic power hitter, her homeruns are big time. She has nice quick hands and is very explosive at the plate. While she does play catcher, she also plays 1B as well. Clarks really is a true slugger. RBI machine really when people are on base. Tends to be streaky at times with her hitting, specifically home runs. I expect Clark to immediate see the field as soon as she steps on campus, her offensive abilities are too good not to be in the lineup. Clark has the ability to step in and hit over .300 her freshman year while also providing nice power numbers (5-10 homeruns).

Savannah Stewart – OF

Stewart plays for Georgia Impact Lewis. She is currently ranked the #43 player in the 2018 class. She will compete at LSU as an outfielder. She is a lefty slapper who is very dynamic at the plate. She has many tools like Bailey Landry, as she is able to power slap and hit away. She loves to drive the ball into the outfield gaps. Extremely smart player too, one of the best qualities about her, she takes advantage on where her defense is. Play back, she will drop a bunt but if you come close, she looks to drive the ball out. She does a nice job of finding ways on base, she was extremely successful this summer with over a .500 OBP against elite competition in Cali. Defensively, she is very solid as well. She will likely play in CF after Emily graduates. She covers a lot of field and has a nice arm. She currently is batting over .400 this fall for her softball team and leading her team in the play offs. Look for Stewart to contribute extremely early. She was recruited by many other SEC and ACC schools.

Shelby Wickersham- Pitcher

The last name is familiar to many, yes this is Jeff Wickersham’s daughter. The NOLA prospect is one of the top players in the 2018 class and is a phenomenal talent. Wickersham is ranked as the #13 player in the 2018 class. Shelby is a pitcher who can completely take over and dominate at any moment. She knows how to pitch under pressure and pitch confidently. Shelby’s development really took off at the back part of her junior year. She finished the season with 192 strikeouts in 123 innings with a 0.78 ERA. Wickersham combined for over 23 K’s against her final three opponents that led her team to a state championship. She throws extremely hard, her movement looked much better her junior season. She has a nice rise ball that jumps and is able to attack batters with a nice screw ball. With the success, she has won National All American honors and is wide considered one of the top pitchers in the 2018 class. Expect Wickersham to play immediate next season

Morgan Cummins- Catcher/UTL

Cummins is a catcher for her hs team Lakewood ranch, one of the best hs teams in the nation that is filled with a lot of Division I talent. Cummins is known for her powerful bat. She can send the ball out the park at any time. She has a plus arm and is not afraid to throw out any runner on any part of the field. She has a chance to hit middle of the lineup is she continues to develop. She will add nice depth for this team. Currently ranked #141 in the country by FloSoftball

Taylor Tidwell- INF

Tidwell is a local product here in Louisiana who has a lot of tools to be dominant at the next level. Tidwell has an extremely high ceiling. It would not shock me to see her starting or seeing a lot of at bats her freshman year. At the plate she is very aggressive and can put up a lot of nice power numbers. She hit 10 home runs her sophomore year and 9 her junior year, despite having a major slump in the middle of it. Taylor really showcased how good she was through summer camps. She showcased very good defense, solid arm and her explosiveness at the plate. She is a very dangerous hitter whenever she is hot, she can put the ball out the yard in a hurry. Keep an eye out on Taylor, the staff feels like she really is a hidden gem and we are extremely lucky to have her

Jordyn Perkins- 3B/UTL

Perkins plays with Shelby Wickersham at Mt. Carmel and plays a mix of 3B and she sometimes pitchers as well. Perkins was recruited for her hitting. She is a very good hitter with a lot of power and potential at the plate. She has the tools to hit at the next level but likely will be added for depth purposes. Would not shock me though to see her have a lot of success at the plate.

Karrington Houshmandzadeh- OF

Karrington is a recruit out of California and plays for Lakewood Firecrackers. She has come onto the scene very late. She is a slapper who is capable of power slapping and driving the ball. Her sister is a highly recruited prospect committed to us in the 2020 class too. I expect Karrington to see time early for us. Has the potential to start eventually for us. Her tools are still being refined but can be a very good player for us. She has a nice advantage of playing a lot of top caliber players out in California, so it should help her transition here quicker.

This class adds a lot of play makers, especially at the plate.

18handicap has seen many of these player play locally and on the travel ball level and would also be able to comment on some of these players.

I expect Stewart, Clark, Wickersham are specifically the ones to make the greatest impacts early. Cummins and Tidwell are names to watch as well, both have a lot of talent and can have extremely high ceilings.

Taylor Tidwell is everything you mentioned in that article but good defensively. All the athleticism in the world, but has a long way to go on defense before she sees the field

I haven't seen her play locally, but I have at camps and on the travel ball level.

The camps I saw her at this summer, she actually looked really solid defensively. She was so and so in travel ball when I saw her but looked a little better this summer.

She still has a year to improve but she still has plenty of time to clean some stuff up

She has so much potential she just needs to refine and clean up a few details in her play.

Do you attend St. Amant softball games?

If I take in Consideration all you said, 2019 lineup could be Ver very good since the only hitter we are losing next year is Emily Griggs.

Lineup:
1.) Andrews LF
2.) Antoine RF
3.) Doyle 3B?
4.) Springfield 1B
5.) Clark DH
6.) Schulte 2B
7.) Schlattman C?
8.) Serrett SS
9.) Stewart CF

It will be very competitive to get into this lineup. You still will have the freshmen fighting for a spot, Sanchez, Caccamise, Sunseri, etc.

I know we lose two all American pitchers, but the future is bright for LSU softball

In terms of position players, we are very young this year. It'll be perfect for next year as we will essentially return all position players minus Emily.

In addition we arse Clark and Stewart and a few other talented hitters.

I think next year early the offense will actually carry us early while we workout the new pitchers. The beauty of this situation is we will have A LOT of options. Clark if she is good as I expect her to be for us offensively, she will hit somewhere. Torina made a statement this summer, basically saying we need more power and more explosive plays offensively. We likely could resort back to the 2 catcher system. Torina has always done it except for this past year

We will have a lot of different combinations next year. In addition we could pick up a transfer or two after this season, you never know.

Still I am excited to see if Sunseri will be utilized much offensively, she has been dynamite lately at the plate. Torina has mentioned before that she hopes to see Sunseri hit everyday for us. It'll be a fun first month of the season.

If Sanchez is eligible and healthy she is in the line up. A line up without her won't happen otherwise.

We lost two position player All Americans from 2017 and it will be a monumental hill to climb to replace them. I'm not sure we have 4 players combined that can replace the production of these two.

This will be a huge period in the program. You don't just immediately regroup from this type of graduation. Hoover and Waljasper are simply two of the top 6 or 7 pitchers in the country and 2019 will have some growing pains on the mound just as we will see on the position player side in 2018.

We have been so blessed in the circle and by having players like Jaquish and Landry that I think we sometimes forget just how important they have been to the health of this program.

I will say she does look really good so far this fall, as does Doyle.

It will be hard to replace a Jaquish or Landry no matter what. I do think we will see some surprises this season. Doyle looks fantastic so far this fall. Schlattman looks really really good. hopefully the different approach to our offense this offseason will pay off come February

I will say this, not everyone puts up fantastic numbers freshman season. Simmons and Kloss weren't special as a true freshman, they had their moments, and they had not so good moments. I think last year was really just a really off year for everyone. It seemed to be a systemic issue down the lineup, not just individuals. I think we will see nice improvements from Doyle, Springfield and Serrett.

Its scary to think about

Losin two of AA pitchers and some of the best in school history will hurt anyone no matter what.

I am excited to see Maribeth and Sunseri's development this season. Then you add Wickersham for next year who is really good. I would not be surprised if Beth has something in the works already for a transfer pitcher for next year. You can never not have too many options.

It is so scary to think of an LSU softball team without Hoover and Walljasper. I’m a very young and new LSU softball fan, I’m only 18 and I started seriously watching in 2015. Hoover and Walljasper is all I know I the circle for LSU. However, pitching has never been a problem for LSU. It’s always been the offensive side. Our worst pitching season was 2014 when two freshmen and a JUCO transfer was in the circle. I think we’re in a way better Situation in 2019 than in 2014. We’ll have a junior (Gorsuch), a Sophmore (Sunseri), a freshmen (Wickersham) and maybe a transfer. 2014 was a season when Jaquish, Landry, Bell, Simmons, Kloss were all underclassmen. In 2019 the lineup and the pitching staff will be more experienced than 2014. 2014 may seem like a bad year but we were one win (bless freshmen Corbello’s arm) away from a super regional.

We fell 4-3 but don't read much into it, we had a lot of non starters starting and playing. We looked good apparently, I was told to keep a close eye on Kara goff. She is competing for 2B but can play in the OF as well. She has a nice compact swing and a lot of raw power.

LSU plays Mcneese this weekend at home, I think for 2:30

I went and watched the game at the scrap yard. Yeah, that was 4-3 but the ump completely blew a call at the plate where we were safe (Sanchez maybe?) I don't remember who got thrown out. Here is what I remember (I didn't take notes and visited/talked a ton) Scrap yard also did a crappy job of announcing and displaying the right players on the screen. It was also the Ronald Mc Donald tourney and I believe it was 18u at the SY. Smart move by Beth to exhibition there and also use it as a great recruiting tool.

Griggs led off in CF and was on base 3 times. Sanchez played 3rd and 2nd. Doyle played 3rd and I think catcher. Springfield mostly DP and 1st (she dropped a great play/throw by Serrett). Thornhill played RF and 2nd. Serrett at SS. Andrews played LF and batted 2nd. She also hit and had a SB I believe. They played another catcher I assume was Loupe but don't remember.

Gorsuch pitched a decent game (6 innings) and Sunseri pitched the last inning. The only other thing I noticed was Carley wasn't with the team. Not sure if she was injured or just didn't travel.

They are resting her and not pushing it as of now. She should be 100% come season starts.

Caccamise was probably the catcher. Its literally between her, Loupe, and Schlattman. I don't see Loupe playin much this year at all either.

I didn't hear much about Sunseri, how was her pitching?

She was okay. Visibly nervous and it took her a little to get going. Otherwise not bad. I actually think she may have hit a hard ground single also. I saw them announce Schlattman but don't recall seeing her number 1 behind the plate. Seems like I remember 44 and 20-something. I do know that Baylor had 2-3 steals off our catchers with 0 CS.

I also think Doyle hit a ball that would have sailed out of the park but the wind was blowing straight in fairly hard and kept it barely in the park. It would have been the go ahead 2 run homer in the top 7th.

The smaller girls were on base a good bit- Griggs, Andrews, and Sanchez. Griggs also showed off her arm and gunned down someone at 3rd and she had a few great plays in CF. Unfortunately, Springfield still struggled at the plate and in the field. Serrett was great at SS as usual and Sanchez made a few good plays at 3rd. She also had an error and a hard grounder down the line that she didn't get to. Overall, good showing by the team. They had around 8 hits.

Oh and the much discussed Nicky Dawson was playing 2nd for Baylor and had a single and a couple of good plays in the field. I also think she had one of the SBs.
