With fall camp wrapping up this last Tuesday and players starting back to class yesterday, there's been a handful of updates.

Cats get what they need from Fall Camp - Guy Ramsey, UKAthletics.com (with Eddie Gran video)

Capacity has been the name of the game throughout camp, with Mark Stoops constantly preaching both to the media and in the locker room that his team must be able to handle more if the Wildcats are going to break through this season. On that front, camp has been a success.

quote:

“We do have tools,” Gran said. “The name of the game will be us being consistent. We can’t go two quarters sky high. And then the next two quarters, we don’t get a first down. You can’t do that. Your mindset has gotta be different.”

Stoops pleased as Fall Camp nears end - Guy Ramsey, UKAthletics.com (w Stoops video)

quote:

It’s been an annual tradition through his first three seasons, Stoops coming to a post-practice press conference ready to rip his team for a lackluster effort. Last year, it memorably resulted in an impromptu evening practice mostly conducted in the dark. This season, it hasn’t yet happened.

The closest Stoops has come to voicing out-and-out displeasure was following Saturday’s scrimmage, when he expressed concern over UK’s depth. But even those feelings he walked back slightly after film review over the weekend.

“I felt like after watching the scrimmage, again, there was some really good things in there,” Stoops said. “I felt like we made a big jump defensively. As I touched on after the scrimmage, depth is an issue, but we're gonna be just fine. As you piece it all together and put everyone together and move some guys around, we're gonna be in good shape.”

quote:

One of the best battles in camp is at inside linebacker alongside Courtney Love, where Jordan Jones and Eli Brown are jockeying for position. “Jordan, he and Eli are battling for the starting middle linebacker position,” Stoops said. “Both of them have shown very good promise. Both make a few mistakes but they’re playing really good football.”

quote:

Transfer De’Niro Laster appears to have found a home. The former Minnesota Golden Gopher bounced early in camp between inside and outside linebacker, but he’s spending his time inside now. “That’s the best position for him, but De’Niro is versatile,” Stoops said. “We’re trying to find the best spot for him, and I felt like inside was best for him.”

quote:

After commenting that UK needed to build depth at defensive line and linebacker, Stoops said freshmen T.J. Carter and Kash Daniel will be prepared to play week one.

I'm talking myself into believing a good season is coming. I feel like I'm gonna hate myself for it come Saturday night at 11 though.

I do that every year. Set myself up for disappointment. And I agree with you on the Saturday game. I think it goes exactly like last year, we start out hot and then hang on at the end to win.

I dunno. I can only see it going two ways. Either we really turn it on and things are firing on all cylinders on offense, with decent play from the defense (barring injuries). Or we get Western Kentucky'd.

I found it interesting that Matt Elam came out to throw shade back at Shannon Dawson. I'm hoping that doesn't mean they're overconfident going in and just get their asses handed to them. That's my worry.

I didn't really think what he said was that bad. But it'll get blown up the way Dawson's "good qb" comments were.

Honestly, I hope he plays confident as hell.
