Box Score

So close, but so far.

All in all pretty proud of how the team played today. I don't think they played their best game of the season but they absolutely gave State more than they wanted. We're competing folks and that's what we asked for in year two of Stoops.

- Patrick Towles had a monster day. 24/43 for 390 yards and 2 TDs. No INTs (even though he threw a couple that made my a-hole tucker). He still has to room to improve as well. Has to have some better pocket awareness (which will come with experience) and needs to work on the accuracy a bit. He had some huge, huge passes today though that were on a rope. For as excited as I am about Barker and his future, I may be just as excited about Towles.

- The running game left a lot to be desired today. A lot of that had to do with Boom being out (a good receiving back) and State's front 7 (the toughest we'll see outside of maybe Tennessee who has looked very good). But they're going to need a little more balance in the coming weeks.

- I have to remind myself again that this is a very young team. But Timmons killed me today with that drop, especially after not even being able to find the ball in the air last week. And really the drops across the board with the WRs was killer. I can't hate too much because they've been pretty sure handed as a group this season, just wish they had been more sure handed today.

- Jordan Swindle did not get a false start today. I repeat DID NOT get a false start today.

- FARR SPECIAL TEAMS. And I'm not even kidding at this point. I know Naviar has recruited well for us but Stoops #1 priority in the offseason should be fixing that shite show. The only place we've regressed all season.

I think the OL is a lot more to blame than Boom being out. Seemed as though we were getting blown off the ball by MSU's DL seemingly every play.

Obviously an encouraging bounce back from the LSU debacle. Played with a lot of heart and fought hard to the end, a mark of a Stoops coached team.

Still need to find ways to get the RB's into the flow more, Heard and Kemp were fairly invisible.
Need to throw over the middle more as well, our sidelines passing game is getting too much attention.
As you mention Belle, ST is poor and was awful at a crucial time, that was the worst onside kick I've seen, got to do better than that.

All in all, got behind too much too early, and could not draw even. Have to fix that, as 3 of the last 4 games are quite winnable.
