I thought it was pretty creative using the up and downvotes like we do for polls at the very least. I was very surprised to learn that wasn't kosher.
You know, Twitter the company didn't invent hashtags- a user did. Sometimes the "abuse" of features by users shows where there is a gap in functionality.
