Ok...lets see who our opponent is this saturday night, which btw will have Brent and Jesse as play by play and analyst, the ECU game had other second tier team...who were they?

UK has six starters back on offense and nine on defense plus their kicker/punter.

On defense UK lost two really good DL drafted by NFL. They also lost 2 backup DL. LB Hatcher & Forrest & Flanigan are gone as backups...DL Melvin Lewis reminds me of Bullard, just a tad slower. safety AJ Stamps is a keeper, Cody Quinn is a returning starter at CB

On offense they have good QB Patrick Towles, a jr who is prototype dropback passer with ability to run if need be, he will throw a lotof short passes and also the deep ball in a 50/50 situation where we always get flagged for PI.
Boom Williams is the RB, Ryan Timmons is go to WR, along with Blake Bone who gave us fits last year on short routes. They have 3 OL returning.

We will have to shut down run game and make them throw on 2nd and 3rd and longs. They will run a lot of screens and also bubble screens and shovel passes. I doubt they try reverses or maybe once...as our team speed will chase it down from behind.

Turnovers and special teams are going to be key, a blocked kick, long return etc etc will turn the game. I also think the team with fewest turnovers will leave Commonwealth with W.

I like our odds as long as we don't give up 3rd and forevers again to Towles again this year. They have averaged over 6 yard per carry running the ball.

A lot of that had to do with our inexperienced safeties early in the season last year.

True. Gorman was still starting at safety and he was not good in coverage. The return of Neal will be huge for us.

I wish Duke Dawson would get out of the doghouse. Kid has unbelievalble talent.

Dawson was in for a series against ECU and he was out of position in coverage. Maybe another year away? He is a true soph. We are deep in the secondary and hard to get a lot of snaps with our talent.

I really like Brian Poole...he was flagged a lot last year and some of them were awful calls for PI. He gives a lot of effort, ditto Neal.

Neal and Maye should be a good combo. Neal was pretty good in pass coverage at the end of the year. Maye is a beast in the box and short throws, weak on deep pass coverage. That weakness should be covered up by VH3, Tabor, Quincy, Poole, and Neal.

First of all I'd like to say thanks to the admin who cleared me to post here. I'll be at CWS cheering on the Cats and hoping the streak will end. I did want to clear up a couple of things that the OP said.

quote:

Ryan Timmons is go to WR

This is not the case. Our WRs that get the most looks are Badet, Johnson and Baker. Bone and Timmons will play but Timmons is falling out of favor and falling down the depth chart.

Other than that it would be tough to argue unless you watched the ULL game. We take deep shots more often than last season. In the ULL game, Towles completed more deep balls than any other QB in the country. That was because our WRs are big and can go get it against smaller CBs. Florida is obviously a different story. Another guy that you need to watch out for is Mikel (Pronounced MY-Kel) Horton. That guy projects much better at the next level IMO.

I know people are down on Florida and UK is a trendy pick amongst analysts, but I'll treat this streak like the UT streak. I don't want to hear anybody say UK is going to break it until it actually happens.
