Let me know what you guys think about this. Seems to go along with a lot of the arguments on both sides in here. One thing to note is they state he is 13-3 in SEC play but he is 13-5 if you count the SEC Championship games.

I think Mac needs to hire some absolute monster recruiters. Are there any to hire right now? I doubt it. Yes I wish we had some baller recruiters so we could get back to some top 5 classes but this article omits several things. It wants to keep harping on Macs classes, but doesn't say much about the other teams in the east having better classes yet we still beat them. Obviously I want some 5 star kids from our own back yard, but this is only his 3rd class.

Zach Abolverdi who works for SEC country has said that the article was garbage.

It presents statistical analysis of what level of recruiting wins championships. I don't see how numbers are garbage. Plus Zach isn't the most unbiased opinion to point to.

Recruiting does win championships. Recruiting rankings don't.

It is about identifying the recruits that best fit your program. Developing them when they get on campus. Bama is the best at this right now.

They also have the owner of 247 sports as a huge fan. To me it is no coincidence that the final 247 rankings moved several BAMA leans up a bunch of spots. It is called the BAMA bump.

If only recruiting rankings mattered Clemson would never have been close to Bama these last two years.

Also this joker said this:

"But in 2017, my worry is not that players like Vosean Joseph and Chauncey Gardner will play well. My worry is that if they suffer injuries, their backups will account for a significant drop-off in production."

Vosean Joseph was a mid 3 star LB. 18th overall in the UF 2016 class and lowest LB . According to recruiting rankings, he should be a career bench warmer.

People questioned why he even got a scholarship because of his recruiting rankings. People need to watch film and then you see what the staff sees in these guys. They've earned my trust when it comes to evaluation.

This is a big misconception about recruiting rankings. 3*s are good prospects. Like in the top 1% of all HS football players. What separates 4* and 5* guys are usually some combination of measurables, offers, and hype (for lack of a better word).

All that said, the numbers show that 5*s are more likely to make it to the NFL than 4*, and 4* are more likely than 3*, so the rankings are clearly on to something. There are obviously misses, but generally they do a decent job of showing trends. The teams that recruit well tend to win a lot. That's not coincidental.

IMO, there should be less 5* (maybe 15-20) and less 4* (maybe 200 or so). After that, I think it's about fit and evaluation. I think that would give a more accurate read on the situation, but that doesn't sell subscriptions.

Smart has a highly ranked committed class right now....and so did Richt many times..I remember UGA after going 6-7 got a helluva lot of recruits highly ranked...one of the best was Crowell, who had an affinity for drugs, guns and gangstas..1 yr he gone.

Smart will have to coach them up once on campus and I think he can be a better coach than Richt. we'll see.

That class was a big boost to our 2012 team, which was a legit title contender. Crowell was the SEC Rookie of the Year and is a starting NFL RB.

Maybe not the best example to undercut recruiting rankings.
