Not bad for a young Defense

The Gators rank 7th in the country in completion percentage allowed.
They rank 18th in third down defense, and for the 27th straight SEC regular season game, the Gators held an opponent to less than 50% on third down.
Marco Wilson has allowed the fewest receptions against him of any SEC cornerback.
Texas A&M was averaging 36.5 points per game and Florida only allowed 19.
Florida held Texas A&M to the fewest yards they have had since their second to last game of 2015.

Defense was never the issue...
Its always been the offense.

Like i say, "theyd bitch if they shite a gold nugget."
Ppl talk about our defense but when you look at the numbers they dont lie.
Complain about our DT depth and LBers yet we held LSUs backs to 2.9 ypc and A&M to 2.2 ypc. Pretty damn good imo for a young group.

I agree, the defense is young, lacks depth, and every once in a while blows a coverage, but overall they are playing at high level and this bodes well for the future and we don't have the cupcake game that was cancelled to boost their stats.

Defense has been steadily improving all year. Coaches are doing a good job on that side of the ball given the youth in the back 7.
Giving up 18 ppg the last two games should have been enough to win both.

Same could be said about our offense. No cupcakes thus far to pad stats

Except for the fact that the offense getting any better from week to week like the defense is.

The offense lost 2 of its best weapons.
No deep threat to keep a defense honest makes it easy to stall a running game

It did improve last week, though. From LSU to A&M we looked much better...at every position other than quarterback. I think the numbers were actually worse outside of that run. But, the defense did do better.

Where does our offense rank ? The defense is not as good as last year but the it's not to bad for a young group. We are going to need to improve the depth before next year . If the offense was as good as the defense then we would be talking about how the UGA game decides the east and winner could make the playoff .

Defense is always ahead of the offense... thats football

Thats football with a crap offensive staff. Our offense with Meyer and SOS was as good as the defense. We didn't win with one side of the ball . One of the season Meyer had a young defense and the offense was much better.

The offense certainly improved from Michigan to Tennessee to Kentucky to Vandy, but took a step back against LSU, then a step forward again against Texas A&M.
I think it's fair to say the offensive line and the running backs have improved every game. It's hard to judge the wide receivers, but that position group was a shell of what we thought it would be going into fall camp. Cleveland, Callaway, Toney, and even James Robinson were all guys that we expected would contribute and they were all out against Texas A&M and part of them were out against LSU. I think the major key- and we've said this from the preseason- is the progress of Franks. He's shown flashes at times but I think it's obvious he isn't what we wanted him to be at this point. The problem is that at times the coaches haven't put him in situations where the things he excels at are on display. That's not to say that they haven't put him in position to be successful, because they have, and he has to see the open guy and make the play, but I think they could do a better job of giving him opportunities to do the things he is good at.

Youre saying it doesn't take longer to install an Over a defense??

The Quarterback position by far is the hardest to learn. It isnt even a question.

I am saying an offense can be better then the defense. We already had a great defense so of course it will be ahead of the offense
. At the Pace our offense is improving we will all be dead before it's in the top 3-4 in conference where it belongs.

If its not top 3 in the conf next yr, safe bet Mac n Co will be gone
Posted on 10/18/17 at 6:59 pm to dbuchanon
Do you agree that's what he needs to do to keep his job ? That seems unrealistic with what he has done his first 3 years . The chance of our offense being top 3 in this conference next year with Mac as the head coach is less then our chances off winning the SEC championship game this year .
