It's nice to finally see a competent offense.

The McElwain era is gonna be fun.

Bigger and better news is: We had one penalty the entire game.

That's enough to make anyone excited for the next few games.

It was refreshing to see a competent team for once out there, and overall, It was good to finally make some exciting plays. The D needs to improve, but week 1 ain't going to be perfect.

A lot to like yesterday evening. The speed of the game and facing a really potent offense...we held them to just a tad over 200 yds of total offense. We had 2 starting safeties out Neal & Maye...still held them in check.

Jordan Sherit, who went to my old high school, started in place of Alex MacCallister and got a ton of experience. He will be good DE for us and is now a r/s soph. Taven Bryan also played a lot of snaps and ditto CeCe Jefferson which is a good thing for DL rotation. Didnt see Holley though.

On the OL we got a lot of snaps from Fred Johnson (OT) and (although he was beaten several times) Tyler Jordan (C)....we will benefit from the experience. At WR we have to like the play of Antonio Callaway who started in the slot. I still am dumfounded by the play of # 5 who dropped a long pass that hit him in a bad spot...his hands. He didnt get on the field much after that. Our TEs will be a bright spot for us this year...finally! I didnt see Kalif Jackson at WR but maybe I missed him. Unfortunately, we have to face facts and realize that other than DRob & Powell our holdover WRs are just not that good and it will take another year of recruiting to get playmakers. Pittman didnt play but maybe he is improved from last year? WR is our weakest position...not the OL.

Hardin looked good kicking...we didnt really have to punt...but Townsend has experience from 2013.

Ok....saving the best for last....QBs...wow! Very pleased by the play of both QBs...but anyone with eyesight can see Will Grier is the bombdiggity. What impressed me was the crisp throws on time and the release is greased lightning. The ball is out of his hand in a split second, but in all honesty...he didnt suffer as much from poor snaps like Harris did. Harris really improved from last year and again he was playing shortstop too much from shotgun snaps to his shoe tops or wide left or right.
You cant argue that it was NMS and thats why our QBs looked good...I base my thoughts on release points, timing and leadership...tangibles that are good against Bama or Slippery Rock. Driskel had to be timed with sundial with his releases....he just took too long to recognize openings...and of course his coaching wasnt as meticulous as Harris and Grier are receiving.

This game surpassed my expectations as to the the QB play, Grier only threw 1 pass that I considered bad and it was behind the WR...Harris was just slighty slower with release timing but both QBs were very accurate. I thought last year that Harris for a true frosh was accurate...but he didnt have arm strength...the 2015 version of Treon reveals added arm strength and it is safe to say that both QBs worked their azzs off during off season to hone their craft.

I predicted 66-13 as the score against NMS and didnt miss by much. I would have liked to have seen more runs by Taylor, Kronkite and Scarlett...but it was obvious McElwain wanted to see his QBs perform in a real game.

Dont see how we cant be in the east division race with such an improved offense....as long as we keep our big uglies upright.

We're gonna use a two-QB system against ECU, but expect Grier to start against Kentucky per Thomas Goldkamp.

I don't trust anything our media guys say anymore.

Did y'all listen to the post game presser?

Our media in Gainesville seems to have their own agenda.

Good points reel.

Our OL is still dangerously thin and our DL not getting pressure on,the QB in that 2nd Q did worry me but all in all a good start to the season.

Our speed on defense is unreal...watch our DL, LBs, DBs react to every quick screen NMS tried. 200 yds of offense we gave up...thats what Im talking about! It would have been nice to have pics and fumble recoveries taken back to the house...but we played fairly flawless.

One thing I haven't seen addressed are the adjustments made by the defensive staff at halftime - we locked NMSU DOWN in the 2nd half. They probably didn't have 100 yards of offense that half. Always good to see.

Agreed. I don't like that Collins wasn't allowing our corners to play press man to man coverage though.

We HAVE the caliber secondary to do that and shut teams down.

But for most of the game our CBs played about 7-8 yards off the WR at the LOS.

Florida #Gators tight ends ...

2013: 4 rec., 42 yds, 0 TD
2014: 26 rec., 237 yds, 3 TD
Last night: 7 rec., 100 yds, 2 TD

fricking mindblowing how inept our previous offensive staff was.

My god.

I really liked what I saw in the opening game especially from the QB position. However looking at the stats from last year against Eastern Michigan I was brought back down a bit. This year we gave up 13 points and 200 yards. Last year we gave up 0 points and 125 yards. Last year we had 65 points and 396 passing yards and 259 rushing yards this year 61 points and 382 passing yards and 224 rushing yards. Eastern Michigan won 6 games the last 3 years New Mexico state has won 5. The thing that stood out to me this year however is one penalty as compared to 10 last year and we were more efficient on offense especially passing this year.

A lot to be excited about but until we play better competition I wont say we have improved drastically yet.

Its not who we played...it was the toughness on offense that I loved...Taylor, Scarlett and Kronkite all ran determined. Our receivers actually caught some of the toughest throws and the tight ends really involved...the qb play is obvious.
Newer guys like Antonio Callaway, Brandon Powell will make some wrs ride the bench...a lot.

I have to say, though, that the QB play is much better. I mean, I know we had a good game last year but if you actually watch how our QBs were playing, they were calm, poised and made textbook reads.

It looks like we actually have a team, players ready to play, 9 freshmen on the field and everyone doing their part. I...I hate to say it guys, but...

15 - 0.

Its ok to say 15-0 but our OL would have to improve a lot before that could happen...all I wanna see is UF in Hotlanta for the SECCG and the chance to beat the west...cause you know the SEC will be repped at the big show.

Ok....buying the tickets.

Really...who can beat us? About seven teams on our schedule and who can we beat? Those seven and five others. I was in the 10-2 preseason prediction mode and 11-1 is possible and 12-0 is possible cause we are sneaking up on folks. Non ranked and harmless

And I know it's early but you can see it in their bodylanguage. You can see that the atmosphere has changed, they're at the very least inspired. Which is something that was completely lacking. Maybe we won't get to 15 - 0, but I have way more faith at this point than I did.

Grier looked sharp, too, real sharp. He may not light the world on fire this year, but I'm happy he's on our team.
