Muschamp gives Brent Pease a vote of confidence

"This is the same staff that came a game away from playing for national championship, OK," Muschamp said. "So obviously we’re not where we want to be right now, and nobody knows that more than our staff. We need to go back and re-evaluate what we’re doing and continue to improve our football over the next five weeks."

I agree, he's not going to publicly berate him. But I have a little bit of a problem with how he worded his defense of Pease.
"The 2012 Gators went 11-1 during the regular season, often in spite of the team's offense. The unit finished the season ranked 103rd of 120 teams nationally and 114th in passing (last in the SEC)."

Pease will be fired. If not, 2014 is Boom's last year.

All pure speculation on my part:
I think Pease is gone, but I don't think Boom is the kind of guy to haul out one of the coaches on the mat for public slaughter even if it is pretty much a done deal. For the most part, the whole fan base is disgusted right now, and a public hanging would probably serve some more reptilian sense of satisfaction among many. However, I don't think it is the way to go or will ultimately make us a better team this season.
Yeah, he is calling out the team a bit lately, but that is different than firing someone. Pease looks to be an overrated OC, but for all I know he may be a nice guy. I've fired some people I personally liked over the years who just couldn't do their job, but I never felt the need to run their names in the mud in the process. I chalk his comments today up to that. The main reason I think this is that I have no doubt Boom knows he's gone with one more season like this, and I don't think he wants to go but changes must be made.
However, watch me totally misread this and Pease still be here next year.

Pure coachspeak IMO. He did use a key word though: "re-evaluate". When Chizik fired Ted Roof, he said he'd "re-evaluate" what we were doing at the end of the season. Last year towards the end of the football season, Jay Jacobs (Auburn AD) said he would "re-evaluate" the football program.
So I don't think y'all need to worry about Pease surviving the season, but you might have to endure him for a month or so more. I think he'll get fired prior to your bowl game, and Joker is given a shot to OC the bowl

I don't see anyway barring a Mizzou collapse with UF wins over UG, Vandy and USC that Pease is retained.
I'm all for the OL and TE coach to be gone as well. Get Brian White more involved and get some new blood on offense AGAIN.

I have a hard time believing that Pease is at fault for the poor offensive production. I was told that Muschamp had too much influence over it and wouldnt let Pease run it the way he wanted. The predictable calls and not adjusting to coverages wasnt something wr saw when he was with Boise State.

Pease was only at Boise one year. Are we sure that Petersen wasn't controlling everything?

I'd guess that Petersen is probably in charge of most of their offensive gameplanning and that is definitely "his" offense, even though the guy with the OC title may be the one calling the plays. He has been there for 11 or 12 years now as their OC or HC. He must love it there because I'm sure he has had a lot of money thrown his way.

I agree to an extent. I think Muschamp is involved too much in the offense, but Pease' situational playcalling is fricking pathetic. They are both at fault, but Pease will be first to go, and WM will then reevaluate his vision for the offense and his involvement in the offense.

Heres another take...after the sting of that disasterous loss...I reviewed the game video and actually it wasn't as bad as I thought at leaswt in the early going.
If you watch the game closely on our first possession...we moved the ball and had a third and 2...a sweep play by Mack Brown came up short, however, looking the sequence...we had blocker engaged and the two yards were attainable IF Brown had made the right cut as he approached the boundary...the correct run would have been to cut inside when blockers had their defenders engaged and Brown instead kept the run wide and it resulted in a punt. Well, lo and behold, the Mizzou returner muffed the punt setting us up in good field position...however, again we failed on several counts...we did block nicely and Kelvin Taylor gave us a good run. We failed to block our assignments on first down and got stuffed in the backfield. It led to a third down play where Tyler badly overthrew an open Burton in the end zone and we kicked FG.
These events aren't indicative of bad play calling..only one play was poorly blocked and we had chance to even up the score and I think it would have given us a real lift. The outcome might have still been the same...but we were giving great effort.
The gates swung open as Mizzou eventually overpowered our depleted DL and without Powell & Jacobs and no telling how many nagging injuries our DL played with...it couldn't compete. I also feel Murphy was playing in more pain than we even know about...the same as Driskel before him. What we want to see in our offense may not be possible except for one thing...Kelvin Taylor. It may not be Peases fault that Taylor didn't touch the ball more....just remember that.
I do think UGA is going to get full blown Taylor left, right and up the middle. He may have 30 carries and will rack em up with that porous defense of theirs.
Not saying Pease is the answer...but he may not be as big of a problem as some think...we will all be happy after watching young Kelvin sledgehammer the leghumpers....and the OL loves to run block...as do all OLs.

Chiz didn't really live in the past. He started meddling in the offense (an area of football where he has no business being in) and his Monte Tampa-2 defense is becoming dated.
Not being close to the situation, I have no clue if this is what Muschamp is doing...from an outsider's view, it just looks like y'all have a less than ideal QB situation which is exasperated by poor OL play, and a shitty OC. All this can be fixed by a couple good offseason hires though
