I like Zach Abolverdi. I do not think Mac can play Appleby in the bowl game. I understood playing him for the games that mattered because the staff thought he was best prepared to play.

But this is a meaningless bowl game. We gotta get Franks or Trask a game with 15 practices preparing as a starter. I understand not wanting to burn a redshirt, and if that's the case, I say start LDR. We have to play someone that will be here next year though. All due respect to Appleby, playing him in this game does absolutely no good for the program.

Well, everyone on this board knows how I feel about the redshirt. Some posters just think the staff is holding him back and should have played him earlier. Thats insane to me. If ANYONE looks at our spring game and the AA high school game...Franks was not even on the same planet as being ready.

Now I think Franks could be the QB we have wanted for so long....so why destroy his confidence?? Theres no way in hell he should have been on the field against Bama. That defense??

Depending on what bowl and who we face...Appleby can get us through it and even Del Rio should be ready in case. I hope the coaches dont bow to pressure from armchair QBs.
They will be the same ones howling for Mac's, Nuss's and Frank's heads if he laid an egg.

By spring we will get to witness what our QBs look like to a degree. Curious to see Frank's delivery and if he still has a windup. He has the strongest arm on campus and can sling it. I watched some of his high school video clips and it was impressive how deep he threw with so little effort. Want to see his frame and weight...he was so skinny in high school and even our spring game he hadnt put on the necessary weight. He needs to be a min of around 235 and really 245 with 6'6" height.

And we wont forget Trask...as we all know too well, a backup is just one snap from being in the game. I think Trask has seen what can happen and he should be always ready to go in. And since he has now r/s'ed...he can always be a change of pace QB who can run with the ball and also throw some.

Yes in the Spring game Franks was rough, since then it says he gets praise from players and the coaches.

The ball does seem to jump off his hand on deep throws, kid has a cannon

If the bowl game means burning the red shirt then those guys can't play.

No fricking way he burns that red shirt. He is too stubborn.

That being said, unless Mac is a complete arse hole, Franks will get the majority of the practice reps during bowl prep.

What is the point of giving those reps to a guy that is graduating, just to play in a mostly meaningless bowl game?

If we are going to get Stidham then there is no reason to burn a redshirt on Frank's. We should have already played one of the freshmen it's to late now in my opinion.

I hope folks dont listen to naysayers about "might as well burn his r/s since a good QB will leave after jr season" That is COMPLETE hogwash. The only QB we had leave as a jr was Grossman and he was about himself from day one.

The reason they wont leave as jrs? Simple...they arent ready yet for the leap to the pros.

So lets take that dog poop off the table when debating about a r/s QB burning a year for one game.
