Obviously he can run (we saw that against Vandy), but there were a couple plays from last year that stand out for me

2:16 mark if Jeff can throw on the run like this, with accuracy, consistently, our offense will be very very good. You see his speed as he easily evades and gets away from 2 elite SEC Linebackers. JD did a great job of keeping his head up, looking downfield, & Patton did a great job as well. We need more of this and less stepping out of bounds for a 2 yard loss.

4:36 is another nice throw. Good vision, soft touch, perfect placement, and he takes the hit from 2 defenders

Well, last year his progression from the BG game > A&M game > Tennessee game was off the charts.

He made huge strides every week.

The UK game he made a ton of mistakes though despite the lopsided score.

And then its like he lost all confidence in the LSU game. Either that or the coaching staff got super-conservative in playcalling, and frankly at the time I didn't blame them, considering how many times in that game that WR's dropped passes or fumbled.

Another play that stood out for me was against tamu

2:46

Nothing too special, but Jeff looked poised, composed, he stayed in the pocket with his eyes downfield and didn't simply tuck and run. Delivered a perfect pass with nice touch on a tough timing route at a critical point in that game.

Again, nothing spectacular, but if we can get plays like this more consistently throughout this season, then good things are in store.

Both the plays I linked were from very early in 2012. I know Jeff made plays all throughout the year, but it does seem like he regressed somewhat, as nothing that I can remember really stood out for me.

Can't wait to see how this year plays out!

Has a ton of talent. But he has mental flaws that have hurt him. A lot of reasons I saw for it.

1- QB battle. He was so scared to make a mistake because he thought he would lose his job. Now that he is securely the number 1 starter with no pressure, I think he will throw in tighter windows and try to lead receivers open this year.
2- Our Oline sucked at pass blocking. Sure a lot of sacks were on Driskel, but really we sucked pass blocking. There were some plays he wouldn't even finish his drop back before being crushed. I love our Oline this year, and I think with better protection we see a better Driskel who doesn't panic as much.
3. Locks on target - Can't do this, progress receivers man. Pray he does better this year at finding check downs and not locking in on the number 1 receiver.
4. Read option - Use it more...he was incredibly good at this last year. See the Vandy game. We need to use the read option at least 6-10 times a game. I don't buy the running a QB is dangerous, because most QBs get injured in the pocket from a blindside hit or a roll up. He's a big boy, he can take a hit.

Honestly. I think Driskel will improve a TON this year. Pease is a proven QB coach and it will show. If our receivers step it up, the sky really is the limit for him.

I think the focus (at least what coaches are telling the media) on throwing to the RBs more should help Driskel get rid of the ball quicker.

The check down pass should always be open or the defense will give up deep throws.

Driskel doesn't even have a ceiling. He's big, fast, strong, and has a cannon for an arm with deceivingly good accuracy. Just needs to adjust a bit mentally (getting rid of the ball rather than taking a sack, anticipating when receivers will be open, etc).

I dunno, man. Seems like he's always got a ton of potential but rarely lives up to it.

I just hope that this year Pease will keep it simple for Jeff. It seemed like he was trying to hard to not make mistakes instead of making plays. He wouldn't throw the ball to somebody unless the receivers were 100% completely open and that led to a ton of sacks. Maybe that was just a lack of trust in the receivers. I hope his progressions this year go. 1 main WR, 2 dumpoff to either TE or RB, 3 take off and run if nothings there. He will be deadly if Pease would make this his progression read imo.

Pease was brought in for that complicated offense. I hope we can it like it was honestly. If Driskel can learn that offense the possibilities are endless.

What I'll need to see is if the Oline has improved at all. Last year they were just god aweful. I keep hearing that they are improved but it will remain to be seen. I think if Jeff has 4-5 seconds in the pocket he can throw strikes. Our receiver core will be better this year as well.

Our Oline was freaking embarrassingly bad. However, I really like Tim Davis at Oline and I think he will have them much improved. The fact that our tackles are learning against an insane group of rushers in practice can only help.

IMO UF was not going to win last year throwing the ball, so Muschamp had Davis focus on run blocking. That was a huge improvement from the year before, just compare LSU and FSU last year and then the year before. UF's Oline pushed around a bunch of future NFL players.

The Oline still has its strength with Harrison and Halapio. Add in Humphries 15 pounds heavier at LT. More quality depth with Garcia and Moore along with the guys UF had.

I expect the pass protection to get better because Davis will have had time to work on it and better talent, depth, and experience

I agree our Oline has to get better. So many of our good plays came from the defense not adjusting to an unbalanced line. That said, I think Pease is really good at finding an advantage vs the defense.

Watch Boise State vs Georgia. See how he found advantages all game in their secondary. I re watched that game when we hired Pease. He reminds me of what Mullen did. He found a way to force the defense into unfair match ups. You never know what hand is being dealt when we break huddle, cause he uses so many different formations and motions to throw off the defense. Once we get the weapons going, the offense will be very hard to stop.
