Very interesting. There's a lot of positives and negatives you can point to for Mac when you're comparing him to the last three coaches through two years.

I like the SEC record, the record at home, and the SECCG appearances.

Not competing with FSU needs to stop and the offensive production need to get better. The talents getting there, now we need to see the production get better. The recruiting needs to continue to trend upwards as well. A top 10 class would be excellent.

Thank you again for posting this TJ

Curious, what was Muschamps offensive rank in years 3 and 4?

WM year 3:
#115 in total offense

Year 4:

#96 in total offense

Year 3 is right in line with Mac's two years and year 4 improved a few spots. The offense has pretty much stayed the same the last 6 years.

Wrong UF...Zook was not the DC in 1991 or 1992

You better call the athletic department and tell them. The media guide lists Zook as the DC.

We need the offense to get better starting next year. Even finishing in the top 70 or so would be such a dramatic improvement over what we've seen. It just goes to show how critical a good competent QB is to a teams success.

You are right UF and I could have sworn he was a special teams coach first....cause when he was heading up the special teams unit...it was a great visual to see him to run down the sidelines step for step with a punt or kickoff returner. He was very demonstrative. The following bio is from Wiki:

Beginning in 1991, Zook served as defensive coordinator for three seasons at the University of Florida under head coach Steve Spurrier. After the 1993 season, Spurrier reassigned Zook to be the special teams coordinator, a move considered by many to be a demotion due to the team's unsatisfactory performance on pass defense. Zook's special teams units performed well enough during the 1994 season that he was offered the defensive coordinator position at Michigan State, prompting Spurrier to give him the title of associate head coach to help keep him at Florida.[6]

Florida defensive coordinator Bobby Pruett left to become the head coach at Marshall University in January 1995 and Zook was promoted to take his place, becoming Florida's defensive coordinator once again. However, the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers offered Zook the job of special teams coordinator just one month later and he accepted, leaving the college game for a time.[7] With Zook leaving, Bob Stoops was brought in to run Florida's defense.

footnote: Stoops was hailed as a def guru by some, but I think UTs fullback is still running up the middle on us for that 58 yd TD.

But even though he came in as DC in 1991 he was a recruiting machine and didnt get to get as involved in recruiting as he would the following years. My point is that the beginning year of Spurrier's recruiting success was lukewarm and of course some of that is being a new HC....and with basically a new staff, its hard to establish relations with recruits and their families.

I think Mac has done a good job bringing talent to UF...especially getting transfers and JUCOs...some who have or will work out...as with any recruit. His staff is in place and will deliver a good class imo...we are in on a lot of talent right now. This doesnt fit the agenda put forth by the OP who wants to downgrade Mac at every turn.

You can download media guides from UF if you'd like to get your own archive going
UF Football Historical Stuff

You have to scour through them a bit, but they do have some additional information like recruiting rankings for some years, where you may not be able to find that info via web search.

They scanned some of the older media guides in and it appears they used low res to make the files a manageable size. Someone from CIS needs to teach them how to fool around with the settings in Adobe Acrobat.

UF...thanks for the info but I do own quite a few media guides in book form including 1981 edition which is a jewel since it is so small in size compared to later years. I have a ton of Gator stuff in boxes, home office, family room, stepsons room and some in the garage.

I usually always state things by memory (usually accurate) and have livid memories of the 1962-1969 era when things were so different. I really liked Ray Graves and originally met him at a high school state playoff game a long time ago....and even got to know he and wife Opal better after his years with the Gators when he worked with Steinbrenner in Tampa. Such a gracious and kind couple.
