While I am excited every year and optimistic about our chances, sometimes overly optimistic, I have a really good feeling about this Gator team. The Defense will be solid, the offense and kicking game should be greatly improved. The coaching staff has a year under it's belt, Steve Spurrier is back. The schedule is manageable. I think this will be a great year for Gator football. Go Gators!

Amen pass the ammo. There is no doubt that the coaches are using the disrepect we have had from the media to fire up the team. UT may have really fired up some reptiles with all the hoopla and an angry Gator will show up on Neyland Field and I think we take them...sending them into another tail spin Im more worried about Vandy on the road. 11-1 and Atlanta bound the first weekend in December!!!!!!

Based on the past 5 years, I think the offense will sputter once again. I hope I'm wrong.

I know you are the resident optimist, but do you really believe that?

It would depend on a lot going right, but if the offense shows up, yes 11-1 is possible.

Of course it's possible. I just don't think it's very likely. I see at least 3 losses on y'all's schedule.

If the OL is alright and the QB stays healthy, I'm thinking 10-2.

It's all about QB play.

Everyone knows it.

Give UF a decent QB and they go from crappy to national title contender over night.

It's been that way for years now.

I see 9-3, mostly because I think the QB will be serviceable, but not great, I think the running game will still be a point of weakness, and I think the defense will once again have to win games, not as much as last year, but still that will be what happens against good teams.

I think 9-3 is a good year, and if you look at last year as the lucky shitfest it was, (UF could have easily lost to ECU, Vandy, FAU, Kentucky, and UT...)

UF was lucky not to be 6-6 last year.

If I'm wrong about the UT game, and UF beats them and is 5-0 going into LSU - sky is the limit.

5-0 going into the LSU game, and they make it a night game?

I'm thinking a long overdue asskicking 2015 Ole Miss style

Other teams take XPs for granted. We will cherish them this year.

As a former offensive lineman, I'm big on OL talent. Even if you had Danny Wuerffel back there, if he's running for his life it won't matter. Outside of Sharpe and Ivey, Florida doesn't have much on the OL.

Add that to the losses on defense, I think 9-3 might be y'all's ceiling.

It should be noted that I'm also looking for my Dawgs to go 9-3 with a loss in Jacksonville.

In all due respect you probably think we are losing to LSU....wrong

UT? maybe...maybe not..but they have at least 2 SEC losses after they play us.

We play UK, LSU, USC, Mizzou at home UGA in Jax and of course I see the Gators winning in Jax and I have posted on Rant that Smart has a lot of good def recruits committed so far this year and they just dont have the horses yet defensively and you lost two really good LB/DEs from last year in a year the defense was not elite, good...but not elite. UGA in 2018 will be very good imo.

Our other games are Vandy in Nashville which is tough but VU doesnt quite have the depth to hang 4 qts yet. The Arkansas game could be tough on the road, girls school in Tallyban. UT is a toss up but I really feel the Gators put together a great game plan and can beat them.

So, yes I do see 11-1 and I predicted 10-2 last year. Our defense will be nasty. The offense much improved when we dont start 3 true frosh OL like we last year in a few games and those frosh got plenty of snaps...so thats an improvement....run game will be MUCH better imo and you will see heavy dose of # 24 Mark Thompson the JUCO RB who is 6'2 245...QB play will be solid with Del Rio who will manage the game and McElwain will always have plays designed to fool defenses...TEs are great pass catchers and finally...kicking game will be the best in the SEC & you will see our JC kicker Fast Eddie kick some long FGs and our punter is a Ray Guy Award type.

The SEC will be overlooking us like last year...but watch out...Treon isnt our QB this year and Del Rio R/Sed after transfer and he has been around our OC for a while.

I see UGA eventually starting Eason with clamor from the fans and he will pay his dues. A true frosh QB in the SEC is like blood in the water to sharks (or Gators). 4 losses and that would be good start for Smart actually.

It's interesting knowing how the team seem to get better as the year went on with Grier at QB. Hopefully this year Del Rio can play the entire season.actually having a field goal kicker is exciting. We only play 4 teams that should be able to match our talent . 2 of them will also have new starting QBs and 2 will have QBs that can pass, it's going to be a interesting year.

Come on...this is worth 2 pages at least.

Just for Hinesville....OL is usually what I keep an eye on during games...all the Johnny Unitas, Dan Marinos in the world dont help much if your OL doesnt block decently. You probably arent that familiar with our roster overall...so let me help you:

The OL will be much improved with T Jr David Sharpe (who was coveted recruit in Jax area) and has a number of starts and will play on Sundays
OGs are soph Martez Ivey, a monster recruit who had to to play last year and started a few, he will also play on Sundays...Tyler Jordan is the other guard and a soph who also had to play last year and was highly recruited and will also play on Sundays imo, center is Cameron Dillard, a r/s junior with experience and a few starts, the other T is Fred Johnson, a soph also pressed into playing and starting some last year who is mountain size and 6'6 who just needs more work on footwork and again..he learned as a true frosh last year..imo also will play on Sundays.
RBs will be much improved and have better OL in front of them...my favorite is # 24 who is going to surprise folks with his size, 6'2 245 and determination...he was a top RB in JUCO last year and had spring practice, our other two key backs are the Jordans, Cronkite & Scarlett who can break loose and run hard.
WRs will be much improved also with soph Antonio Callaway (also return threat), Brandon Powell a junior with speed to burn, CJ Worton junior who is a possession guy that makes tough catches and really stood out in the spring, then there are other upperclassmen that may see spot duty such Ahmad Fullwood a senior possession wr at 6'4 plus we have coveted JUCO Dre Massey, frosh Tyrie Cleveland another top recruit, Josh Hammond a frosh, Freddie Swain a frosh and Rick Wells a frosh. McElwain really went after WRs which wasn't a full cupboard when he arrived.
QB Del Rio is NFL HCs son and was born with a football in his crib...he has been around our OC for a spell when at Bama and then last year when he had to R/S under transfer rules. senior transfer from Purdue is insurance and a good one who didnt have talent around him up there.

Defense? Wishful thinking that we are somewhat depleted Hinesy boy...meet Caleb Brantley an ace 300lb DT who will be playing on Sundays, depth at DT is decent with Joey Ivie a senior with good motor who was injured at tailend of season last year, Taven Bryan ditto who is a soph, CeCe Jefferson soph, the prize recruit will play DE/DT, Khairi Clark is beast and a soph, we have the pass rushers in
Jefferson, Bryan Cox a sr, Kelvonnis Davis a soph, Justus Reed another soph, Jabari Zuniga a r/s frosh and we have Jordan Sherit DE who is a run stopper and can rush the passer, a junior who was injured late last season.
LBs we lack experienced depth but starters are solid in Alex Anzalone a sr who has been injured and missed most of last season and might get sixth yr from NCAA, Jarrad Davis who will play on Sundays and is a sr, another sr in Daniel McMillian, also likely to get a lot of snaps is r/s frosh Kylan Johnson converted safety who shined in the spring plus a handful of frosh recruits.
Secondary is solid and imo the best in the SEC..start with Jalen Tabor, junior, who is a thief in the night taking the cheese and putting up six points, Quincy Wilson is the other corner, another junior who might leave early with Tabor, safety Marcus Mayew a safety who will play on Sundays and a senior, Nick Washington the other safety is a junior with lots of snaps ditto Duke Dawson, plus we have Joseph Putu a JUCO corner and highly prized with two years left to play. We are recruiting secondary guys like crazy this year to help us in 2017.
Johnny Townsend led the SEC and was third in the country in net punting, can really flip fields...then we have prized JUCO recruit taken away from Bama in Eddy Pineiro, a soph (thank God) who was soccer player but boomed 70 yder in practice camp and a really strong leg, he will attempt 60 yder this year imo...I like to call him "Fast Eddie" in honor of an old friend.
Playing us will be like sticking hot butter up a tigers azz and you will get clawed.
