''Taking over a losing program that was struggling in recruiting, executing on offense and overall roster management on both defense, offense and special teams (no kicker 2015 lol) -- this year would have been alright had we not lost ten players before the season started -- both impact players gone, our quarterback, the next two best receivers on the team and we're only losing by a few points to worthy opponents. It's a valid excuse to be kind of behind the 8 Ball, even in year 3 of trying to rebuild what was essentially an entirely broken football team paper thin where it mattered most...''

You guys: ''No it's not.'' - End.

I agree with most of the assessment except for special teams roster...he obviously hasn't paid much attention to the players on the field during punt coverage but our DT Bryan, TEs Goolsby, Cyontai Lewis, Malik Davis, WR Swain and other top players have been on coverage units.

My real problem which I agree with him 100% is the lack of return blocking to help spring a returner. I like Powell, but he has allowed way too many punts to sail pass/around/through him for my taste. He has cost us dearly a few times by having us start in poor field position.

I certainly agree with the article about starting field position in the A&M game...it was horrible and I think a strong part of the equation why we lost a close game. We must have had at least 3 possessions start inside our 20 yd line. That's not good.

Special teams is 1/3 of football. The coaches have to improve it during this week off and I swear if I see a return from even 2 yds deep in the end zone I will scream.
Cause it will mean starting at the fricking 15 yd line. This is all on the coaches. Has to be fixed. We can beat UGA if we win special teams play and if our defense can get us a few turnovers.

Ill say it again, injuries and suspensions are legit problems to hold this team back. But next year Ill have no more patience for these types of offensive showings.

QBs,RBs,WRs,TEs and the oline will all be their deepest and most talented in years. No excuses. And if Mac pulls a Petrino in the dead of night i wont be mad either. I doubt it happens though. I fear if it does happen we'll promote Shannon to keep the staff together. I wouldnt be happy with that.

Exactly. Next year they will actually have depth -- people who aren't true freshman making their first contributions to the team with a quarterback who is having trouble finding his rhythm because he's lost literally every weapon the team has -- every weapon he's been working with all fricking Summer just to have slew of bad luck take over.

Next year, we'll actually have guys (should they not have heart problems, or other unforeseen problems) that are ready to go. Hammond and Swain obviously are not.

Even rewatching the game, if it was Cleveland in the end zone on that bomb, no way the defender out-jumps him for that ball.

Next year, barring the team bus crashing into a ditch and getting stranded, there are just no more excuses. It's time. We have extra slots available when we finally cut the guys away if/when they get convicted. Time to grab some JUCOs.

I'm more worried about the basics.

Special teams is easily the worst in the SEC. It's simply horrific.

Tackling has to improve all around. Our form tackling is just dreadful, that is very teachable.

Getting play calls in. Seriously..this pisses me off more than any other problem. Efficiently getting calls in should not be even remotely difficult at the college level.

Fire Nuss. This article rather plainly says it without actually saying it.

Better game management. The last two first half endings were simply baffling. Mac not realizing he had a time out is something that is just insane. That can't happen. Not when you make four million.

Now I"ve made it clear I don't think he is good enough for the job. Just to many things I see say he can't win it all here. I also know year four is very likely. If he fires Nuss and Nord, and brings in a more spread style offensive cord. I can get back on the train. But I'll be ready to jump off if I see the same issues again next year immediately. Will be paper thin at that point on my losing it and giving my tickets to a homeless guy so he can sell them and get a pizza.

I dont see Mac bringing in a spread OC. Its gonna be his offense. Not saying he cant take over playcalling or bring in someone else to call the plays

He won't fire Nuss. If he was forced to he would hire a Charlie Frye type Pro style OC.

None of those 9 guys would've contributed much besides Scarlett and AC81 who were inconsistent when they played. I've pointed out how other staffs have overcome losing a lot of guys. The problem with the defense is talent, scheme and tackling. All point back to the staff. I tild you guys Shannon sucked as a D.C. and recruiter. I was told I was wrong. The author even points out the lack of talent at LB. Stars don't matter til they do:

quote:

Them lacking the gifts of blue chip recruits means that only time will get them up to UF’s usual standards?—?which is to say they won’t get there until late this season at the earliest.

The problem with his analogy that the offense would be better with Scarlett and AC81 doesn't hold merit. We had both last year with a similar QB in AA and staff and the offense finished #116. The rest were backups or freshman. Davis has replaced Scarlett and the fact that there aren't any great WRs beside Toney and Cleveland points back to recruiting. Recruiting wasn't hurt by 4-8. That is a lie. WM brought in the #7 class. 2015 was hurt because he was fired and walked to Aub and took Holland, Davis, Cowart, Horton, etc with him. Mac had to find an OL due to medical injuries fine. He still doesn't have one or a QB. Two things he blames WM for. This guy clearly isn't watching the games if he thinks there's nothing wrong with the game plan. We've had almost 3 years worth and they all look the same. If Frank's, Zaire, or Allen can't play adequately here why did Mac recruit them? I'm done with the rest. This clown has blamed the players, nord, and nuss but not even a hint of blame towards Mac. Did reel write this?

Believe me when I state that I'm not happy with our results overall on the field....but I also know why. Insert LDR the past two games and we win those two very close games. We lost two games by three points.

But more than just LDR, it has hurt not having AC81 on the team...more so than Scarlett. We have players putting forth a lot of effort, there isn't a lack of that.

I have seen Mac bring in offensive talent recruiting and he also completely replenished our defensive secondary in one year, so he has recruited much better. When I see probably 18 starters returning next year on offense and defense I see a lot of reason for optimism. Just getting Marcell Harris back for a sixth year is an immediate boost, remember he was our leading tackler in 2016.

Mac will be our HC next year...period. If the production is not there then I certainly will be ready for change.

Del Rio only started one game and when he left the team was losing . To think that his struggles against a bad Vandy defense would Mean he would do good against LSU and A&Ms defense is funny.

I'm fairly convinced Mac's job is safe for now, but I'd be shocked if Nuss and Nord are at UF in the same capacity next year. We get to add a 10th coach next season, so maybe he would keep Nuss around to be QB coach but IMO it would be best to have a clean break. The team is going to be deep and more experienced with another favorable schedule. If Mac surrounds himself with the right people he could potentially save himself.

It just depends what happens this year. If our offense is still fricked, we'll probably have to bring in new guys no matter what McElwain says -- as long as they don't hurt the recruits coming in next year.

If we're productive in the next few games like we were against A&M (outside of points), then we won't be changing anything up.

Think it would have to be a bigger improvement than that, don’t think A&M numbers would cut it. There’s a lot of pressure for change, and money talks when you’re fundraising for massive facility improvements.

Mac gets four years no matter what...if he feels Nuss should stay then he will stay...everything is contingent on 2018 and we have to improve a lot on offense or I will be among the chorus wanting change.

What happens if there are 10 injuries and 10 suspensions again? Because from what I am hearing being screamed at us, those are legitimate excuses for sucking.

It's a legitimate excuse for Florida State, Michigan and USC, why not here where we have more players out?

If we have another mass suspension, though, it's time to change the entire Football program. This cannot happen again.

As for injuries: Considering our underclassmen are playing pretty well -- and 19 starters are coming back next year. We'll still have young players here, but we'll at least have depth more than 2, which McElwain hasn't had any year he's been here.

We have very good young players emerging with 2 very good classes lined up thus far. If Mac fails next yr he's out imo and we'll have a nice base of talent for the incoming HC.

It’s not a good enough excuses for those programs either. There is grumbling at all three programs. It’s not like their fans aren’t complaining too.
