This ad showed up at the top of the page when I clicked on the South Carolina link:

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL frick?! Doesn't tRant sell ad space to the businesses whose ads appear at the top of the pages? I hope I'm remembering that incorrectly and that is not the case.

It's not. I believe it has to do with your own internet searches.

I can honestly say I have never, ever searched for anything related directly with clemson university. Anything I've read related to them has been on here or on one of the Gamecock related websites. I am relieved about tRant not selling them ad space, though. That would be insulting to the entire SEC.

Oh well, chalk it up to my own computer trolling me, I suppose.

Correct, they use AdChoice on this site. It's like Muliview or what MDR do. Companies/Organizations subscibe to their services. Users then surf the internet and may come to one of those organization's pages or have recently searched for keywords related to those organizations. Then AdChoice or MultiView will match up that person's IP address with the company who advertises for them and create impressions (banner ads and such) that appear specifically to that end user.

It's a pretty good way to help market your company to a user who is on the internet a lot. One of my customers called me one time and was surprised that we advertised on a newspaper site in TN...we don't, but we usde MultiView and he saw a banner ad of our's on the newspaper site b/c he had visited our site and was locked in for digital impressions (kinda like cookies.)

Judging from that ad, clemson likes doing alot of things with head.
