Does anyone know if we have any commits for 2015? There are only three uncommitted players in the ESPN Top 100 and none of those three are considering us.

2015

So perhaps Coach Staley will not sign anyone in 2015, since we only lose Welch, Eliam and Gaines, and instead save-those three scollies for 2016?

2016

That would give us six to give with the 2016 class.

We lose Mitchell, Sessions, Roy and Dozier after next season and then add the +2 ... what do you think?

???

Right now, this squad is made-up of eight freshmen and sophomores.

Bringing in Shay Colley from Canada for 2015

LINK

She's the only one for 2015

2016 should be big, Staley was just in Illinois and Indiana recruiting according to her Twitter account

Wow ... awesome! Thanks for that info!

She seems really impressive: PDF Bio

Shay Colley follows in cousin's footsteps to try out for Canadian women's senior basketball team in Edmonton

quote:

Shay Colley, a teenage sensation from Brampton, Ont., is following in the footsteps of second cousin, 22-year-old Justine Colley, who played for Canadian at the FIBA Americas tournament last year, but decided to take a break from international hoops this summer after finishing a historic CIS career with the St. Mary’s Huskies.

“It would have been cool to play with her, but it’s her decision,” said Shay, who didn’t try to convince her cousin to try out for the team this summer. “I’m not going to force her into it.”

While growing up, Shay got to shoot hoops regularly with Justine, who lived just across the street from her grandfather. Justine, who is four-and-a-half years older than Shay, had some sage advice on trying out for the senior team.

“She said it’s a lot of hard work, it’s a lot of intensity and you have to be mentality strong,” Shay said.

BRAMPTON LADY WARRIOR SHAY COLLEY SAYS YES TO SOUTH CAROLINA

BRAMPTON LADY WARRIOR SHAY COLLEY SAYS YES TO THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA!

THE #1 RANKED WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM IN THE UNITED STATES NCAA D1!!!

In a much anticipated year, Brampton Minor Basketball Association (BMBA), Brampton Lady Warrior and the best point guard in the country Shay Colley will be a South Carolina Gamecock!!!!!!

Shay Colley patiently weighed her options not looking for what others wanted but what was perfect for her and her future.

Shay has played for the Brampton Warriors organization for the last five years and has always been a player who led her team not just in words but in action. Her coaches could always rely on Shay to be at her very best every time she stepped on the court. Over the last few years, she has been coached by Head Coach Hugh Riley as well as Assistant Coach Jason Harris.

Head Coach Hugh Riley said of Shay, “Shay is a player that hates to lose and as a result, she spends a lot of time in the gym practicing and working hard. She is the best player that I have coached. She leads her team in many ways and is never afraid to carry the team when a game is close. Shay has a number of young players who look up to her as a role model. We look forward to bringing them to South Carolina to watch her play.”

Assistant Coach, Jason Harris had this to say, “We are extremely proud of Shays’ accomplishments and we expected nothing less than the best for her. She has always been a pleasure to work with, coming into the gym and getting the work done. We wish her nothing but the best at the University of South Carolina.”

Shay has not only played for the Brampton Lady Warriors but has been a pivotal member of both the Ontario Provincial team at different age groups as well as the Canadian Junior National Womens’ team, leading both teams to victories nationally as well as internationally. Shay has represented Canada on many fronts and is an internationally known basketball player.

Shay is truly a testament that, with hard work, dedication and by doing what you love, great things will happen.

Congratulations Shay, from the BMBA!!!

Yea I've checked out some video on her... she's definitely a shooting oriented guard, which is really an asset for this team. I think she's it for 2015 though. I read somewhere that Dawn wanted another post and was considering looking in the JUCO ranks, so you wouldn't see them listed in the rankings. Even then, it would just be Colley and the JUCO post player. Which is good, Colley is definitely an impressive player. She's that consistently dangerous shooting threat player that opposing teams will scheme for, allowing our other players to get hot.

Just from reading her twitter, it seems that she's really focused on 2016 and 2017 classes. It's amazing what she's accomplishing with this VERY young team this year.. we still have one more year of Mitchell, two more years of Coates, and three more years of this STELLAR freshman class. I expect either her 2016 or 2017 class will be another stellar class. This team is good now, but can you imagine how good they'll be in 2 years?

That makes total sense ... because our weakness right now is lack of perimeter shooters.

I thought the comments made last night during the game were dead-on about Cuevas being key to us making a run down the stretch for the national championship. We're going to have to rely on her shooting, especially with her ball handling skills, late in the season and in the tourney.

Right now, teams like Connecticut and Tennessee are going to be able to stack the paint against us and force us to score from the outside ... and that's an iffy proposition for us.

Also, putting us on the line in close games is scary. We're going to need Cuevas, who is 74% from the line, to get there and help-us to hold-on in some of these big games.

They're pretty good this year. Even given Ibiam's obvious demotion, we're still as deep, or deeper, than anyone else in the country. But I agree, experienced depth with this freshman class is where the big questions remain with this team - although I think Dawn has done a masterful job of gradually indoctrinating Cuevas into her system - you can see Bianca's confidence growing with every game - she just needs to slow-down a hair every now and then. White has been hurt and I'm wondering if she is going to be a big contributor before this season is over. Wilson is looking at a Freshman Player of the Year type season so far. Coates and her have some sort of symbiotic relationship developing on the court.

Now, Duckett was supposed to be a big time shooting guard - I've not noticed that she is just yet. Cliney was too and I'm not sure I've even seen her play?

Coates is the key to a lot of things right now IMHO, moreso than Mitchell perhaps, I dunno. But we'd better get all we can outta Coates while we have her because, when she leaves, we're going to miss her badly. She is a rare rare talent and competitor. She'll be very tough to replace.

I can see where Dawn might try to bring-in a Juco post-player this year though, if there is one out there worthy of the program.

With regard to future classes, I fully expect Dawn to have Top Ten classes most years. But it is amazing how competitive women's basketball has become. These days you'd better not hiccup recruiting women's basketball because Connecticut, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Duke, Louisville, UCLA, Stanford, Notre Dame, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas, California and even Nebraska ... I mean they are all coming hard. ADs have recognized that, with the new network deals, TV inventory is key and women's basketball has suddenly become lucrative inventory to offer for broadcast. Those fifteen schools I listed above, they are taking it all very seriously and women's basketball is only going to get better because of it ... not to mention the simply fact that the SEC is taking it most seriously of all, top to bottom - the conference is just turning into a meat grinder.

Dawn better keep recruiting like a mad woman. We've got to strike while the iron is hot and win some national championships and establish a little tradition while she is here so that it carries over into the future.

From what I've been told we're likely to actually make money this year, for the first time in history, with our women's basketball program. It's looking very good right now that we'll end-up the season in the black thanks to the increase in home game attendance and the new TV contract and us having so many games on the main ESPN channels.

Sorry for the long rant ... but finally, this is worth mentioning. ESPN has been hyping this potential #1 vs #2 match-up with Connecticut like it's a preview of the National Championship game. There is strong potential to board the highest rated women's basketball telecast in history with this game ... if we can stay undefeated. (knock on wood) If, somehow, we can pull that off and then win that game ... lookout - the sky will be the limit from that point forward because everybody hates Connecticut and we've got a very likable team, a photogenic team, going up there to take-them-on in hostile territory.

I've got a cousin-in-law who is a UConn guy and they are flying up there for the game and he's been talking shite to me for a month now. That place will be packed and bat-shite crazy. If we can somehow pull-it-off up there, on national TV, with the lead-up hype this game has been generating on ESPN ... it could be huge, just crazy big, for our overall program.

I check that out all the time Cheese.

BTW, helluva game last night. I kinda felt like your girls were fouled two or three times there in the end ... but what a game.

I noticed they wouldn't show the replays on the questionable foul calls, just the replays on the out-of-bounds and on the final block. But we ran it back on the DVR and looked at it and it looked like your girls were fouled three times on the shots and put-backs ... but they were not called.

What a game though.

Several late no calls but the over and back sent the crowd pretty ballistic. That was a key 4 point swing and it was obvious to everybody in the place except the 3 refs. I thought MM was going to get a technical for sure.

The other thing was the 6 quick calls in the 2nd half on UK while they only called one on the Vols. It looked like UGA all over. The girls were pretty bummed about having beat the Vols but lost to the refs. Expect worse from Uconn. I really hope the Cocks get the win but I have a feeling the refs will cost you a new TV after you throw something at it after some bad calls.

As to game and flow it was a good game and a great atmosphere as it used to be a home game for the Vols but UK had the vast majority of the crowd last night. Blue Mist has certainly taken back their house from the Big Orange Horde. Crowd was very loud and hostile post game when the refs were leaving and they rushed a few UK cops over to escort them out. Not sure if that made the TV version of the game.

You coming to Keeneland this spring or next fall? Breeders Cup will be there after the Fall Meet 2015. TRF's went out this past November and the prices were steep!

Glad you noticed that as well. Not to go all tin foil but I swear this has been happening more and more in the WBB games say the past decade but really so in the past few years. Not sure if you watched this gem where KM video LINK went ballistic but did not get the technical However Waltz did for stepping just outside the box. His post game response was classic! LINK

Quote #1
Q: There was a team technical called.

COACH WALZ: That was an on me. I was outside the coaching box. I’ve learned, I’m better off if I wear a sport coat because I can step up and rip that off and go halfway on the floor and you won’t get a technical. If you sit on the scorer’s table three feet outside the box, you’re going to get one.

Quote #2
Q: Did you keep your composure in this game?

COACH WALZ: I was mild compared to what I usually am.

SEC tourney could be a real roller coaster and it is in LR so the Hog fans will show up. May go to HS and stay over that time and drive to LR for the games.
