Wanted to see the new Sea Lion exhibit and new buildings.

It wasn't that hot, pretty nice day...but the story of the day was the guys/gals in their 20's running around the park staring at their phones. I thought there was some news story that broke. Later I asked a group of nerds what was going on and they let me know that they were all playing Pokemon Go. Basically they run around placed and an App Developer teamed up with Pokemon to make characters from their game appear in physical places via geo tagging locations. So people use their smart phones to find them...instead of looking at the wonderful real life things that are going on around them....we lost ourselves as a society somewhere...but that's not the point of this thread.

I was waiting for one of these nutjobs to jump into a lion pit to try to geo-tag one of these pokemon, but I didn't see that. Still I think it might happen. I saw a mentally challenged teenager (not just saying that, he was legitimately mentally challenged) playing that game and I thought that wasn't safe at all. He was leaning over the rail where they keep the ostriches and zebras. Ostriches are mean as frick, that's not safe.

Sea Lion exhibit was nice. I think they put in new AC and air filtration in a bunch of the indoor exhibits, b/c it didn't smell nearly as bas as last year. Riverbanks is one of the best zoos on the East Coast. Public walkways were exceptionally clean and maintained.

I am definitely one of the loser nerds you speak of.

I've been all over this game for the past three days now.

Lol. I did not say losers. Be safe out there. Apparently if you want "good" pokemon Riverbanks zoo has some, b/c there were people who were really excited about what they found/expected to find. Although that group of guys was mad about 1 guy challenging them and beating them who they said was somewhere around there. My money is on it being a person that works there who already had all these "good/better" pokemon.

Did I explain that game correctly?

I have no clue about the game and really don't care for it. I do play Mad Skills MX and Clash of Clans on my phone, but that's for poop breaks. But... This Pokemon Go game is doing more to fight obesity by getting people on their feet. Maybe it's all part of a world-wide government conspiracy..

I live in DC now, my parents came up to visit last weekend and we did one of those "hop on hop off" tours where you could visit most of the tourist attractions in the city.

It was a glorious day to be on Pokemon Go.

She spotted two deer near the water — but still no Pokemon. So, she walked down to the rocky river bank. She didn’t immediately notice the man’s body lying face down in the water six feet to her left.

“I guess I was only paying attention to my phone and where I was walking,” she said. When she finally realized she was standing near a corpse, Wiggins called the police and led them to the scene.

How new is this? I work on campus and heard some students talking about it on Friday. Had no idea it was this big.

I looked it up, it came out last week. Forbes just released an article that Pokemon Go's daily user rate is about to surpass Twitter. Wow....

Pokemon Go is awesome and idiots don't realize that your phone vibrates if something happens. You don't have to stare at it.

EDIT: Team Valor!

$3M Myrtle Beach special needs playground vandalized with ‘Pokemon Go’ spray paint

What kind of playground costs $3M...? I would've liked to have been part of that deal..

quote:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach police officers are searching for two teens wanted for vandalizing a special needs playground that is nearing completion at the Market Common.

According to a police report, vandals were seen walking around Savannah’s Playground on Farrow Parkway around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday spray-painting items all over the park.

Character names from the popular game “Pokemon Go” could be seen painted on the sidewalks and trees as well as “profane and obscene gestures. An electrical box, water fountain, signs, playground equipment and a port-John was also damaged.
