More speculation from sportstalksc.com

quote:

(UPDATE 11/26) On this Thanksgiving night, can’t help but talk a little turkey about the search. And look who’s back on our board. We’ve heard enough today to conclude USC and Tom Herman is not a dead issue. As we’ve reported, USC and Herman agreed in principle to a deal weeks ago and we received further confirmation on that Thursday. With a game to play Friday, Herman’s side is trying to keep the focus on beating Navy and earning a spot in the AAC title game. Thus, they put out the word Wednesday that he’s withdrawn from the USC job though Herman himself has not publicly uttered a word about that job or any other. We expect Ray Tanner to continue his pursuit of Herman as soon as the time is right and that depends on how Friday’s game turns out.

Basically nobody knows a damn thing about what's really going on...a helluvalot of smoke and mirrors around Herman.

You know it. I said I was gonna cut his hands off and sew his mouth shut. I guess I should've followed thru on that.

Dude got blasted on twitter after the debacle a couple of days ago with the Herman situation. He must enjoy receiving death threats and being told what a vile and despicable excuse for a human he is. <----that's putting what was actually said very, very, very nicely.

Seems most ppl are ignoring it as far as commenting or retweeting it. I'm sure others read it, as I did, but I sure as hell didn't comment or retweet. Don't want to kick up another shite storm like the last one just in case there actually is any truth to it.

I'd still love to see tRant's reaction if by some miracle we do end up landing him. Utter shock and disbelief...I can imagine it now. And suddenly tRant's opinion of Herman being the hottest name in coaching would change to "Oh he's not shite...if we'd wanted him we could've had him..blah,blah,blah,blah"...Mizzou in particular would pout like a 2 year old.

I like Smart best as next head coach, but this would be awesome. There would be a great willing and gnashing of teeth were Herman ultimately come here.

Still, I'm ready for someone to take the job, give the program some direction, and develop a strategy during the dead period. There's an awful lot of work to do to find a full class.

I think that even though Texas says they're behind Strong, last night's game further dwindled their patience and faith in him. If Texas starts out 1-3 next year, Strong is done. As awesome as it would be for us to land Herman, I just don't see how we'd be able to hold onto him for 2017 if Texas is in utter desperation mode and throws the bank at him, regardless of where he is or what his record for 2016 is.

I know that no one with involvement or interest in South Carolina wants to go through this process again, so that's why I think Smart is our best bet.

Texas/Herman = UGA/Smart.

When UGA finally fires Richt, Smart will be their No. 1 target if he's had any modicum of success here.

The fact of the matter is that there will always be a more attractive program that will come after a successful coach at Carolina. We were fortunate that Spurrier didn't want to go to Miami or Alabama when both came after him.

The only two coaches that likely wouldn't leave USC because it's their destination job are Elliott or Bisaccia. And no one seems to be excited about either of them.

Though, I'll be honest that I'm finding Bisaccia more intriguing by the day.

Heard Tanner was gonna be firing up the jet to meet with Smart either after the games tomorrow or early next week

I'll just go ahead and repost a link to the university plane on flight aware

Actually, what I heard was that Smart was coming here for an interview tomorrow ... I dunno how that is going to play-out with Saban, but I seriously doubt he'll be fond of him leaving on a Sunday with Florida film to watch.

This is the problem with hiring an assistant coach - and it could hurt us in recruiting if he has to hang around for the remainder of Bama's season.

Fuente didn't vet, no SEC team was going to hire him once the vet results got out. Plus he was willing to let a lot of Beamer's staff stay in place at Va Tech.

Smart is our guy now ... unless UGA fires Richt of course.

After that I do not have a clue. Things have tightened up so much over there ... I mean tightened up like a gnat's arse stretched over a #10 washtub.

If anything leaks heads are gonna roll.

What happens if LSU does not fire Les? I think they will, but what if they do not? Are we back in the hunt for Herman? No one seems to know anything. Tanner is not even talking to his wife about it right now ... or so she jokes. Waddell avoided all the hangouts tonight. He was MIA. Crane was MIA. Everyone was MIA ... Pastides included.

They are going to the mattresses over there for real. Who knows what is going to happen.

Just wanted to say thanks for your posts. It's interesting seeing what's going on over there, and I hope everything works out well. Smart would be a great hire.

Smart burned his bridge back to Athens 5 or 6 years ago. Unless something has drastically changed, Smart will not be roaming the sidelines in Athens. SCAR can have him

But why? Just because he decided to stay at Alabama vs making a lateral move to UGA?

Who was the AD at UGA when that went down with Smart?

I cannot help but wonder if Herman is back in play ... I dunno.

I know this. None of the current staff has a clue. None.

Something is going on over there today though ... all the cars have been there since early this morning.

I think it was still McGarity, but I'm not sure.

Terrible fricking year to be hiring a head coach.
