Being the starting quarterback can have its perks, but as South Carolina's Connor Mitch has found out, there can also be some craziness that comes with the territory.

On Thursday, Mitch tweeted out a direct-message conversation he had with the marketing director of The Horseshoe Bar. In that conversation, the marketing director apologized to Mitch for the long wait for a drink Wednesday night.

The only problem is Mitch wasn't at The Horseshoe Bar that night.

Someone apparently decided to impersonate the redshirt sophomore quarterback, telling everyone that he was Connor Mitch. This interaction led Mitch to reveal that this has happened before.

Former South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia wanted Mitch to know this probably won't be the last time it happens:

I understand how this could've happened 20 years ago, before smartphones, subscription recruiting boards (as we know them today,) etc... those guys at the Horseshoe should be a little embarrassed...unless this Mitch Imposter really looks a lot like him.

That guy has a set on him tough, I wonder how many assess he's tagged pretending to be Mitch?.

One day he's going to run into another player or somebody that knows he's not Mitch, and if it's in 5 Points, somebody might get knocked out.

Well, I guess since no one has actually seen Mitch. Only a small % of the fan base actually follows practice / recruiting enough to recognize the guy, so I think the impersonator was taking advantage of the situation while he could.

The Horseshoe Bar

Someone please tell me... Which one of my favorite bars in Five Points from years ago has been replaced by this?

Nothing was the same when I was last in Columbia, and it makes me sad.

I think it's Sharky's. (They have a Horsehoe banner over the old signage, the Sharky's banner still shines through clear as day.

Or at least, I think it's part of the old Sharky's, it might've been split into two separate bars.

I know what you mean though, I left for a year, came back in the summer and I swear half the bars in 5pts were a different name or something. The Vista was relatively the same though, with the addition of that Chicago restaurant.

The horseshoe is where Grandma's used to be

Sharks' down stairs is now Lattitude 420 or something like that. Upstairs is the Attic and owned by the same guy that owns Pinch

And where's this? Is this the one that took over Chubby's?

God damn I'm out of the loop.

Yeah, the past few times I've been in Columbia we've stuck mainly to Tin Roof. Been almost 3 years since I've been out in Five Points, I think.

Sucks getting old.

Man, I'm only 25, have a baby face. So physically, I'm still able to easily fit in with the college crowd. But last time I went to 5 pts I went to the Pour House... looked around.. and said, "Good God, everyone here is a baby."

Pour House used to be my favorite bar when I was a student. I'm 25 with a baby face too, so I can still blend with the college crowd as well but last time I went out there I felt the exact same way. Walking into Pour House and seeing a bunch of amateurs (obviously underaged) drinking was such a wake up moment for me

I used to go to Sharkey's and Red Hots (both changed their names) a pretty good amount in my later years because they played lots of dance/hip hop music. Parrot Heads when I was still underaged up until I turned 21.

None of those places are the same anymore. Not even the vibe. Jungle Jims is gone, Bey's is gone, Grandma's changes it's name every 6 months, The Library is gone (was a GREAT bar when it first opened). Group Therapy is still there, and it's still weird. I never went to Group as an undergrad but now I go for at least a few hours or so whenever I'm in town. The outdoor patio is something I really like about Group. Group and Pinch are the only places I like to go to in 5points now. Pinch feels like a bar full of people in their mid to late 20's that can't let go of 5points yet, which explains why I go and why I always see people I recognize from undergrad there.

When I first started drinking I went to Group and Bey's a lot. Usually because that's where my friends just happen to go. When I come back to SC I've never checked out the place that replaced Bey's. Still go to Group, but it's almost always dead these days with the same strange regulars.

The last time I recall seeing it busy was during St. Pat's a couple of years ago, and everything is crowded then.

My last year of undergrad / in SC (took a year off between undergrad and grad) I went to Social in the Vista an unhealthy amount. This was roughly 2012-2014, when the 5 pts violence seemed to happen almost on a weekly basis, so the college crowd really started floating over the Vista.

Social was fun the first 100 times, then it got stale. Tin Roof was always fun, hate the cover charge.

Now when I come back me and my pal usually start at Speak's and bounce around to look for a place with a crowd. Speak's is a nice quiet place, expensive drinks though. Or we go to the Vista and go to Tin Roof or even the Art Bar (another strange place but the drinks are relatively cheap, especially for the Vista)
