According to Sports Talk SC, the South Carolina Gamecocks have reached a tentative agreement with Houston head coach Tom Herman.
quote:

“We are told today a tentative agreement on an offer in principle between USC and Tom Herman has been reached. The deal is contingent on Herman and his wife liking what they see when they visit USC and Herman and Ray Tanner being comfortable with one another.”

This comes after Houston lost to UConn this past Saturday and lost their hopes of having an undefeated season. As a head coach, Tom Herman is now 10-1.

Nope. Reports surfaced last night that he was now considered a long shot for the job. Some are saying the media leaks spooked him.

It's ESPN's Chris Low, Adam Rittenburg from ESPN and others from ESPN as well.

This was the first tweet to "break" the news from Chris Low:

quote:

South Carolina has major interest in Tom Herman, but after checking with some close to the situation, I'd be surprised if he ends up there.

Here's the link to that particular tweet..several ppl from ESPN are in the comments reiterating what Chris reported.

We have shite for luck apparently

Well dayum. Guess these people releasing rumors should've kept their big mouths shut. Honestly even though I know the guy's 10-1 as a head coach, the inexperience was what worried me the most. We also don't know for sure if he could bring the same success with him to South Carolina if he were to become our next head coach.

I'd prefer getting somebody who has more experience and can field a good defense. Even though our offense isn't much better right now, I feel defense needs to be our top priority.

The media is out of control with this type of shite honestly.
The fans are almost as responsible for it as the media are. The continuous bird dogging and rumor mill over shite like this is borderline clinical obsession.

Agreed.

I'm hoping that he takes the same approach that he did when this happened with UH, though. That wasn't even close to the same stage as this has been on, but maybe he'll rethink things if he does follow thru with the interview like he's supposed to do.

I guess that's why Tanner tried to refute everything so quickly and adamantly last night..probably knew this was the end that it was going to come to.

Tanner has to be furious right now, and for good reason. The media needs to let the man do his damn job and stay out of it.

Mother of God...now FoxSports is all over social media saying Kirby Smart is now the frontrunner for the position.

Damn. This whole process was so much easier when nobody gave two shits who we hired.

Seriously man, what the hell. What a selfish turd. If this actually negatively impacts what we are trying to do as a program, you gotta consider just cutting him off. It's a detriment to the program for fricks sake!

And if it wasn't him since it was under the byline of contributer I will find out who it was and beat them as well. Some people just can't keep thier mouths shut. It's quite pathetic, at least wait till after the interview and his season is over. I'm beyond disgusted by whoever this was. I served with ANA(Afghan National Army and ANP (Afghan National Police) with mmore integrity than this scum.

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the idea of he jumping ship after 1 season? I mean. I know smaller schools are meant to be stepping stones. Hell, Houston in particular has a great history of it. But it's not like SC is his dream job. I just don't want him to find a little bit of success here and jump at the 1st opportunity when a bigger school comes calling (like a Texas in a couple of years or something)

Granted, the only way another school would want him is if he was winning here.

Here's the bottom line Men.

If Herman was furious over a report on social media then he is a fricking idiot we don't want here anyways ... because he'd have to face reports on social media every single day of his life here.

Herman is no idiot. He's surely no fool either - thinking that people were not going to talk. He may be pissed about the leak, but if he really wanted the job that wouldn't have mattered.

He didn't want the job after the Citadel loss and he came to the realization that this was a complete and total rebuilding job. We have no players. We just loss to a DII program. We're about to get waxed by our rival who is waaaaaaaay ahead of us in the recruiting game right now. This job was too daunting for Herman to tackle ... it scared him off. If he is using the leak as an excuse, then it's just that - an excuse. He's scared of the job.

Things always work out for the best.

Kirby Smart is not scared of the job. He's looking forward to the challenge.

We're going to be fine. No sense in pointing fingers, even at kornbutt and that fricking idiot side-kick of his kevin fricktard mcrary.

Another thing while it's on my mind. If Herman is so much the control freak that he honestly believed he could control the press, social media, fans, et al., and he couldn't handle losing control of those things ... then he's not flexible enough to handle this job. This job would eat him up and spit him out. Better we find that out now rather than later when he could have melted in front of all of us and we have to cart him away like a babbling idiot.

Smart is going to be fine. He has the right temperament. This will work out for the best.

But it was the Citadel game that did it - who do we blame that on?

You know i told a couple friends that i thought that loss could hurt our chances with herman right after it ended. They laughed and said i was crazy....

Plenty of blame to go around, but i would have to start with spurrier. He is the one that put his lazy son in charge or recruiting and led/ allowed complacency to frick the whole program.
Next would be elliot who has an offensive line that is just absolute dog shite. The short yardage abortions in that game is what will stick with me most. I expect to give up some points to option teams. shite, we always do.
Lastly- the arse clown that scheduled the game.
