Who ya got?

I honestly, for the first time in literally decades, have not a clue for a lot of positions.

I'm taking at WAG here ... but including depth because the coaches obviously plan to platoon, a lot.

QB: McIlwain ... Orth, Mitch, Bentley, Scarnecchia (not necessarily in that order)
RB: D. Williams ... Rico Dowdle, Mons Denson, C.J. Freeman
TE: Hayden Hurst ... Kevin Crosby, Kyle Markaway
LT: Mason Zandi ... Akeem Cooperwood
LG: Zack Bailey ... DJ Park
C: Alan Knott ... Cory Helms
RG: Cory Helms ... Donell Stanley
RT: Blake Camper ... Malik Young
WR: Bryan Edwards ... Randrecous Davis, Javon Charleston
WR: Deebo Samuel ... Korey Banks, Jamari Smith
WR: Terry Googer ... Matrick Belton, Christian Owens

Utility: AJ Turner .... KC Crosby, Evan Hinson (I mean, where to use this Hinson guy? He's got to be on the field. See below.)
FB: Rivers Bedenbaugh

DT: Kelsey Griffin ... Stephon Taylor, Kobe Smith
DT: Taylor Stallworth ... Ulric Jones, Dexter Wideman
SDE: Marquavius Lewis ... Keir Thomas, Javon Kinlaw
WDE: Darius English (Buck - OLB) ... Abu Lamin, Shameik Blackshear (if he clears his final hurdles), Kobe Smith, Evan Hinson (Hinson was the steal of the class IMHO)
LB: Bryson Allen-Williams (Weak) ... Evan Hinson (see above), Jordan Diggs, Sherrod Pittman
LB: T. J. Holloman (Middle) ... Jonathan Walton
LB: Lorenz Bryant (Strong) ... Daniel Fennell
BC: Rashad Fenton ... JaMarcus King
SS: Chaz Elder (although I believe Skai Moore will emerge there once he comes off of suspension)
FS: Jasper Sasser ... DJ Smith, Toure Boyd
FC: Rico McWilliams ... ????

(We're in trouble at both corners I fear.)

Nickle: Chris Lammons (when called for) ... Antoine Wilder

Punter: Sean Kelly
Kicker: Elliot Fry

Edit 1: Midnight 18 April ... removed WR Jalen Christian.

Secondary will be a major concern. On my phone now, but I can go ahead and tell you, Fenton and King will be the starters at CB. The coaches aren't high on Rico at all, and there are several others who aren't SEC-caliber. Secondary scares me to death.

Wouldn't be shocked if Orth started this game.

Isn't Jalen Christian gone?

No JC Jackson in the secondary?

Man, we are going to be awful next year.

RB: D. Williams

His ability to run into the line and fall down amazes me.
Hopefully someone with better vision steps up in fall camp.

Forgot about Christian needing to go home a couple of weeks ago. I'll make that correction.

Is JC Jackson a done deal? Last I had heard he was still waiting to decide between us and Miami was it? I was out of pocket for awhile. There is another DB transfer we're after outta UGA as well. Not sure that he can play this year though.

The first rule of JC Jackson Recruitment is you don't talk about JC Jackson Recruitment. j/k He is projected to enroll late summer right now, but that's totally unofficial. If he comes, I think he starts game 1, along with King. We move Lammons to Safety and either Smith/Elder/Diggs start at the other Safety spot. I also think Rico or Turner will be RB2 in Nashville, but 1 of them is going to replace Williams going forward.

Wow ... I had no idea that was being kicked around.

Just my opinion, but I didn't see anything in the spring game to make me think that Williams was clearly better than Turner. I thought Turner looked more dangerous with the ball in his hands then Williams. We'll see if Rico's game can transfer to the college level, but I think it will. He is about as fast and elusive that they can make a 210 lb RB.

I could see it happening for sure ... but I think part of the problem with that Spring Game showing by Williams was the coaches not wanting him to get hurt.

From what I understand he really excelled in practice.

I agree though, Dowdle and Turner will get plenty of chances.

So I guess, after reading the responses so far ... other than our kicking game, does anyone foresee any strengths, any surprises that might lead us to believe we could pull-off a decent season?

I'm really expecting our DLine front seven to be fairly good.

I'm hoping our OLine is above average.

If we can field a good strong deep group in the trenches ... we've got a chance at a 50-50 season.

Edited: change "leaf" to "lead" and reiterate ... I really don't like autocorrect.

"Strengths" - LB's, OL, DL.

We are going to need that pass rush to be effective to mask our weakness in the secondary.

Yeah ... I knew that was coming either today or tomorrow that's why I was hoping to see what we thought before they released theirs.

I'm glad to see they elevated the Charleston kid, Javon, on the WR depth chart.

Worried, a little bit, about one of our DE positions.

But man oh man ... here's where the concerns definitely lay.

CB: Rico McWilliams/Rashad Fenton
S: Chaz Elder/Chris Moody
S: Chris Lammons/D.J. Smith

Guess he didn't crack the 2 Deep. I expect he will still play this year though. Lot's of time between now, and fall practice, and then the season.

That's the thing about Spring Games ... can't take very much away from them heading into the summer practices.

I can remember years when the Spring Game MVP never played the next fall.

The only way we're ever going to get more out of a Spring Game is when they start allowing us to scrimmage other teams ... and that is probably never going to happen for fear of injury plus other logistical and financial reasons.

Can anyone remember Marcus Lattimore or Jadeveon Clowney having a big Spring scrimmage?

Back in the day, I'm thinking back to the late 60s and early to mid-70s, you could take a little more away from the Spring Games because they used the JV teams up until about '73-'74 for scrimmages. You gotta remember, the JV teams were not made up of just freshmen, but of players who rarely had an opportunity to play otherwise ... and the rosters were over 115 at the time. Thirty more scholarship bodies than we have now.

Once they started cutting scholarships, especially once they got it down to 85 and then, considering you really have less than 70 healthy players come April ... it changed how the Spring Game is played and how much we could take from it when all was said and done.

These days it's all about having everyone ready to play by 1 September ... and then surviving the season and starting all over again.

I never saw any of the practices, but he had 2 Sacks at the spring game and several tackles. I thought he and Ulric Jones had the best day for DL that game.

David WIlliams also had 6 carries for 6 yards that game, but he's RB1...maybe he just practices a lot better than he plays.
