That i misheard that they are keeping elliot....
Please?

What in the screaming frick?
Dude is a below average position coach and admitted publicly that
he got lazy recruiting. shite, look at the current Oline commits. Coastal carolina would balk at this crop / crap.

Saban wouldn't go after bad coaches.

I swear Will Sport had dirt on him because he was the only player that got playing time that wasn't good and didn't improve under Elliot.

We could do a lot worse than Elliot

Elliott was one of the best recruiters we had on staff. Elliott put more OL in the NFL during his 5 year tenure than we did in the previous 15 years combined.

He'll also be a good transition coach for the new staff. The players already love him and will rally around him. He'll help acclimate the new coaches to the other parts of the program/contacts.

Who else would you want as OL coach?

I am okay with Elliot in that capacity, but he needs to 100% focus on recruiting some big boys and developing them. I think his ties to the state of SC and the high school programs here are an added bonus.

Good oline coaches dont put units on the field that get their pants pulled down by the citadel repeatedly.

He wasn't coaching the OL that game, Wharton was. Elliott was a better OL Coach than Wolford and Hunt, he was the best OL Coach we've had since Dave DeGuglielmo.

So elliot built this unit, coaches them for years, admits to getting lazy and complacent recruiting, which is obvious if you look at next years commits, and wharton gets blamed for their pathetic performance????

I cant get on board with that.

I i dont think in game coaching and adjustments were our problem that day.

Well CWM has said already that if he hears of any good players that weren't contacted by our coaches, then they won't be coaching there for very long. I'm guessing that Elliott is on a short leash. If he continues his complacency in regards to recruiting, then there's no reason for Boom to keep him around.

That specific game, he didn't prepare the guys that week for the game, and he didn't coach them in game. He was overseeing all units. He lost the total game, but the OL wasn't the only reason we lost that game. We couldn't stop their rushing attack and we couldn't run the ball for shite that game until we finally decided to use Shon Carson. IMO, Brandon Wilds mentally checked out this year after the aTm game. We kept giving him the ball though even though his stats completely fell off.

Keeping Elliot is the best option out of anyone else who were on staff. He's already on the recruiting trail with Muschamp as we speak this second.

If you can't trust Muschamp with anything else, he knows how to recruit and choosing Elliot to help out is for a reason. I think we should let this play out before getting overly critical, but eh just my opinion.

Shawn is the big question mark and he's going to be on a really short leash as has already been stated in this thread.

He's going to spend most of the next 72 hours riding around with mUSChamp getting the law laid-down to him. No more offers or commits without Boom's approval. Develop your players or you are gone. Keep up the high energy, be the big brother figure on the staff if you want ... but meet the standards or get replaced.

It is what it is.

I think it's good to keep shawn on staff, he is a gamecock fan and wants to see the team succeed more than as just a coach. Hopefully he will learn a lot for the new staff about recruiting and will be able to grow as a coach.

I'm sure he is ready to learn.

It only makes sense to keep at least one coach just for recruiting continuity, and of the clowns we had, which would you prefer over Elliott? Ward? Jr.? Adams? Elliott has passion and love for the school, and he may have gotten lazy last couple years as you say, but that's because the last guy in charge allowed it. Bad habits and lackluster effort trickles downhill. Muschamp will lead by example and will expect his coaches to give it their all. If Elliott doesn't get the job done, he won't stick. So no need to worry over it in my opinion.

I would assume many would argue keeping Mangus vs Elliot would have been a good idea. I'd be okay with either considering Muschamp isn't scared to replace someone.

Overall, I think the emphasis on "blue collar hard worker" is big with Ray Tanner & Muschamp and it was what helped Elliot stick around for a tryout. Lots of will to be here at an SC school... and knowing how attentive the man was watching Muschamp get his dream job instead was a demonstration of high class.

I was at the press conference yesterday .... from my perspective:

Elliott is on a short leash ... one year contract, sink or swim.
