I really think Chaz Elder is going to surprise some people around the league and turn in an all conference season if he can stay healthy. At free safety he's got potential to be a great ballhawk with all the height and speed he's got.

Also very excited to see Pharoh Cooper playing wide receiver full time and hoping he stays on punt and kick returns. He almost broke a couple for scores last year

All the LBs. I think they are going to show out this season.

Also Roland and Byrd with a pass happy QB. I would love if we feature some more TE in the passing game this year as well.

I don't know about excited by I'm nervous about Dylan. He's proven he can be accountable but not nearly as efficient as Shaw. This is his first, and only go around as the full time QB. Hoping all goes well.

All those already mentioned plus I'll throw-in David Williams. I think he has the potential to be a great back if he can stay healthy.

One of the purest combo packages of size, strength and blazing speed I've ever seen.

Good vision, finds holes, runs low behind his pads. I just have a feeling that he is going to prove to be very special.

I'm also looking forward to seeing if Abu Lamin is as good as advertized.

I think we can all agree to a little aprehensiveness at QB this year.

Shaw spoiled us.

Dylan can do it if he plays within himself and if his supporting cast does their part.

It's gonna be all about the OLine and if we can run the ball to keep defenses honest.

We've got the potential for some real balance on offense.

We're going to be the hunted this year with a target on our backs the size of a barn.

Dylan Mother fricking Thompson (DMFT) will be just fine. He's got a great supporting cast with all yall's receivers and Mike Davis, and a veteran line.

Defense has some questions, they'll be answered quickly.

I'm excited to see what Cooper and Davis do this year. I have high expectations for both.

Dylan Thompson as well. I think he'll do fine but I've ridden the pre-Shaw Carolina QB carousel too many times to feel overly confident so I'll stay just a little bit apprehensive.

I'm excited about Williams as everything I've heard about him says he will be a great one, but I'm also excited for Brandon Wilds: if Wilds could finally have a relatively healthy season, I think not only will he have a productive season given the # of carries he will get, but his contributions will help Davis stay healthier and have the best chance at the season he's capable of having...

Also excited about English finally debuting at DE - everyone has been making such a big fuss over English's weight, but Devin Taylor was 6-8, 244 in 2010 as a starter when he had 13.5 TFL and 7.5 sacks, and Matthews was the big guy at 6-4, 260 on the other end, getting 8.5 and 5.5 respectively in a season hampered with a bum shoulder. English is expecting to be at 260 by the start of the season. English was more accomplished at the position out of HS than Taylor was, who was considered a project by all concerned. IMO, English, Dixon, and Harris will do just fine at DE for us...

Wouldn't say excited as much as hopeful that McWilliams bursts onto the scene for us at CB in 2014: he's had almost 2 full years since his ACL tear to get fully healed, fully rehabbed and regain his confidence. We have some great DB talent incoming from the '13 class but it would be nice to have someone with some true game experience out on the field to start the season, and besides McWilliams and possibly Williams we only have red-shirts and walk-ons returning. It wouldn't surprise me to see Rhodes starting early on, and while he has performed solid in reserve duty, that still concerns me...

Also hopeful to see WR Roland step up and become a top SEC WR in 2014. We got some good dependable receivers in Byrd and Jones, and Byrd could become a big-play receiver for us, but we need Roland to keep his head on straight this season and become a 500+ receiving yards guy for us, in order for our passing game to be as effective as it can be...

And last I'm excited to see the entire LB position perform with a year's worth of experience under it's belt, but mostly I'm excited to see what Moore does as an encore...

Why hasn't anyone said Wesley Green?

Probably the same reason why no one has yet said anything about Allen-Williams, or Terry Googer, or Dexter Wideman (if he makes it in), or any of the other highly regarded incoming freshmen: because they haven't gotten in yet and shown what (if any) impact they'll have to the team in 2014...

Although it's pretty much a sure thing that SOMEONE from the '14 class makes an early splash - there's always 1 or 2 true freshmen that step up their 1st year, like Fry, Moore, and Cooper in 2013. But we just don't know enough about them yet...

I guess JUCO transfer Abu Lamin brings some excitement for me...I forgot him. He was an EE so he was able to participate in spring camp. He performed well enough to receive some recognition in camp (won the Rex Enright Def. Player of the Spring Award), so he may make an impact this season.

One area of the DL that IMO USC has some depth is the interior DT area, with returning starter Surratt, plus Dixon Jr., Dukes, Griffin, Deon Green, and Lamin. We'll be able to continue a heavy rotation of talent without any drop-off of production there, so Lamin could get swallowed up a bit into the depth. But it also could be helpful for him to minimize any errors he may have from being in the system for the first time as well....

But yeah, I'm hopeful that Green, Lammons, or Smith are quick reads and pick up the schemes well enough during fall camp that they can help as soon as possible. They are highly talented and the CB position is in dire need of a talent upgrade. There will be ample opportunities for 1 or 2 of those youngsters to stake a claim in the 2-deep this season, but until they start practicing and showing what they can do I don't know who it will be...

DT. He's the difference between going 6-6 and 12-0.

Mentioned already: Shaq Roland, David Williams, Chaz Elder.

Not mentioned: Larenz Bryant, TJ Gurley, DJ Smith

I think we get 2 spurs on the field fairly often this year, so Bryant should see plenty of PT. I also think we slide Brison Williams over to CB and give Gurley a chance to shine at S. And of the new guys coming in at DB, I think DJ Smith is the most physically ready to contribute.

I can't imagine any scenario where we finish 6-6. Honestly, one of the backups could get us to a bowl if it came down to it.

IMO we'll be more than fine at the Spur position - Jordan Diggs will have a big say this season on how many starts Golightly hold onto. Having two very talented athletes like Diggs and Bryant backing up Golightly will make for some serious competition this coming fall and season....

After watching Allen-Williams play in the Under Armor All American game and seeing how Mark Richt tried to convert him into a Bulldog I don't want to see him red shirt this year. If Coach Ward plays more of a 3-4 defense like he eluded to this spring I can see him earning a spot in the rotation.

I've wanted to see that for a long time. It's such a versatile position that putting two on the field just makes sense in this pass-happy era of football. Plus Gamecocks have two spurs, it's kismet...

Dawgs love to hate on Ward for some reason.

Probably because they haven't had a decent DC in quite a while
