Nunez is sure endearing himself to his teammates.

I was down there today for a little while. Got to talk to some of the guys and some of the insider bystanders, a former player or two.

Lattie is being the excellent influence we all expect him to be - nothing but positives coming from his presence.

Everybody is working hard - some moreso than others of course - but everyone is working hard, yada yada.

But Nunez, the kid is a sponge. He is magnetic. He has made friends with the upperclassmen, going out of his way to earn the respect of the OLinemen already - something not easy for a true freshman QB to do. They are all pitching-in to help him learn the system in a hurry. He spends a lot of time just ghosting himself running plays on his own.

Over and over again I heard two things, "cannon for an arm and he is accurate - throws a pretty spiral." And, " he is fast, really fast. Deceptively fast. Much faster than Shaw and he too does not mind tucking it and taking off. Matter of fact the coaches feel like the toughest thing they are going to have to teach him is to stick around a little longer and find an open receiver rather than taking-off ...."

You're going to hear a lot about him during the summer.

I stood right next to him - he is an impressive specimen. He's been hitting the weight room big time and it shows. He's a full grown man.

I know y'all have probably heard all of this before but ...

He's my height ... 6-3, easy. Usually they are over-hyped in the size department, but he's an honest 6-3.

Everyone there told me he runs a legit 4.51 - 4.52 but he's probably faster with a football under his arm.

Infectious smile and attitude. I personally witnessed that.

Talking with one former player that was there today who attends a lot of practices and workouts ... "he's got happy feet. They are working on getting him to stride back and set his feet rather than bouncing around so much - and he's learning."

"Incredible work ethic. Always the first one there and the last one to leave."

His weight fluctuates a little .... he's in the 205 range right now but they expect him to hit 215 by summer camp. I think I heard "207" called-out today but they said this afternoon he might be down to 203 or 204 by the end of the day.

Pure muscle. Pure athlete. Really impressive ability to move around on the field. Really quick feet and will juke you out of your socks.

Did I mention this kid's smile and attitude? I promise you .... I dare you that when the first time you meet him if he does not make you smile instantly. I mean he is just such a pleasant kid.

Anyways - he impressed me enough to want to share that. Others there are hard workers too - we've got some talent. But I was really excited about this Nunez kid.

When I heard team leaders say "Connor Mitch doesn't care about football" last year I hoped on the Nunez train.

Glad to hear he's doing well

I still think Mitch is going to start the season. If the OL does a good job giving him time, Mitch should thrive. If the OL falls apart and we can't give Mitch time, or if he gets hurt, I still think we see Orth before Nunez. IKD, maybe we'll never see Orth though, when was the last time a non-scholarship QB won a conference game for SC?

Although, it would be nice to see Nunez earn some reps in games this season. I'm becoming less of a fan of the RS for skill position guys. I think it makes a lot of sense for OL or DL (especially OL,) or when the depth chart is so stacked that it's pointless to burn a year. If Nunez beats our Scar and Orth for the 2nd spot by Game 1, then we might have something really special with him.

There is something special about Nunez ... I never would have said it before today. He's got some kind of glow about him. He is gonna make the game fun for those around him. The way he walks - the natural enthusiasm. I've been around a lot of players for a lot of years and you can always tell the special ones ... they are always working hard, always smiling, always enjoying themselves without being silly.

I think this kid may have "it." We'll see. I hope I'm not projecting something that's not there but he sure does come across as something special.

With that said there is no doubt in my mind that Mitch will start against UNC. It's the Spurrier way. And he'll play as long as he is moving the ball and doing the right things. But do not be surprised, in the least, to see Nunez get some playing time. No way in heck will he redshirt.

You should see the size of that kid's hands. His hands are huge. They are going to have to work with him, as they did Shaw, to run and scramble with two hands wrapped around the ball because he's going to think that one big hand will do the trick ... and that doesn't work well in college.

But if they can really get his fundamentals-down before Summer practice starts ... he's got a lot of people down there pulling for him, and he knows it. He's got a lot of confidence.

He comes across as very very intelligent as well.

Anyways, I heard one of the OLinemen today sort of take a poke at him and say, "Hey, why are you always smiling - stop smiling so much."

Nunez just smiled at him real big like and moved-on to the next station.
