Per PK per Football Source, we have hired Matt Lindsey to be the new Director of Player Personnel. After graduating from Bama, he held some sort of role in recruiting there, not sure if we have any Bama posters on our board but clarification there would be nice. After that Chip Kelly hired him at the Eagles to be work in College football scouting.

From TOS.

quote:

Hey guys,
Former BamaOnline recruiting insider Trevor Hewett here. I wanted to take this opportunity to get in here and let you guys know that y'all will be very pleased with the hiring of Matt Lindsey as South Carolina's DPP. Lindsey may be young and a name that you have not heard before, but he has both the knowledge and the drive to be very successful in Columbia.
I had the pleasure of working with Matt during my time at Alabama football and have stayed in touch with him since his time in the NFL as the Eagles college scouting coordinator. He is well respected and connected in the personnel community and will bring a wealth of knowledge and organization to the Gamecock's recruiting efforts.
He is yet another disciple of Ed Marynowitz, who has produced the DPP's at UF and UGA among many others in the NFL and at other universities. He also has the most experience with Marynowitz having worked with him during his time at the Philadelphia Eagles.
He has always been a behind the scenes kind of guy up until this point, but he is more than qualified for this job and I have no doubt that he will do great things for you guys.
Great talent evaluator and even better person.
Hope that gives you a little more insight into the type of guy that Muschamp has brought in.
P.S. He also got engaged last week, so he is on a hot streak right now lol

So this thought has crossed my mind and maybe some of you fine gentlemen in the know can enlighten me a bit.

It looks like, to me at least, that Muschamp is mixing some NFL guys, up and coming guys, and some former player guys to not only recruit strong and cover multiple angles but take on the angle that they know what it takes to get into the NFL. Ultimately I think that is the only way you are going to compete with the traditional blue blood powerhouses in college ball. By establishing that direct connection to the NFL, you are able to at least get in the door with some of the high level recruits it takes to compete in this league, then the snowball effect takes place.

Any thoughts, scoffs, or additions are welcome to this pontification.

I completely agree. Furthermore, I would argue that a lot if not most of the great coaches today fit that bill at one time or another. Just look at our own coach T-Rob. He played at Auburn, went on to the NFL granted that wasn't an illustrious career or anything but he still got there, and then started coaching. To get from there to where he is now takes finding someone with a superior scheme which Muschamp's defensive scheme is that, relating to the recruits to be able to get them in the door, and developing them with the knowledge of how their position fits into said scheme.

Top level talent isn't all that concerned with winning at the college level nowadays, they have their eyes on the NFL from day one and are looking for a way to get there. Having people in house who are #1 former players like T-Rob, Peterson etc who can explain what it takes to be a Professional athlete and #2 the addition of support staff who have been paid to find potential pro athletes is huge. It may not pay off on the big no brainer guys immediately but I think if we get into another Devonte Wyatt situation that it could sway something one way or another.
