why?
It's never covered nationally or on TV, and the best talent normally is drafted out of HS and in the minors already

Actually a lot of the top talent is going to college now.

Sometimes I really wonder what team you actually root for.

Not sure what I said that makes it sound different.

You should watch more college baseball. Then you would know......

It's also something we win a lot at. So that's a nice change of pace.

I would if it was on TV more.
Actually I've tried and just can't.
It's up there with Women's basketball for me.
But GO Cocks!

We brought in 3 top 100 Draft prospects last year alone. Brandon, Cortes, and the other eludes me at the moment.

Why? because now we can all stop pretending to give a shite about basketball. It has been and continues to be just enough of a distraction to get us from the end of football to baseball season. I'm not saying I don't want us to succeed in bb, but even with one of the best coaches we've ever had the best we are going to be is just good enough to get to the tourney. That's about it. We will be able to talk some shite to the real dumpster fires but never actually accomplish anything in that sport.

This used to be a valid excuse but just doesn't hold water anymore. SECN will put a bunch of games on after basketball season ends including a spotlight Thursday night game in primetime.
The games that don't end up on SECN are all streamed on SECN+. So if you have access to the internet (I know you do....) you can watch ANY baseball game played by an SEC team this year

Welp I can't understand why you can't get into the one sport we are consistently not only good but great at. 3 straight college world series on 2 separate occasions is impressive on its own. The win streak we had from 2010-2012 in not only Omaha but also the regionals and super-regionals rivals any accomplishment that any other program in the sport has had.
Have you been to a game?
Posted on 2/18/17 at 12:16 am to Cockopotamus
My cable provider does not have SECN under the package I currently have
I shite you not
And yes I went to games in college. I lived in Bates and saw them at the Frye.
Like anything a cool thing to tailgate and go drunk to. I did the same for soccer games, doesn't mean I love college soccer.
Just not something that I enjoy or can talk about/discuss with people outside of the internet. CBB and CFB on the other hand

Get a friends info that does. Or upgrade your package. Or move back down south.

Now you're sounding like IBG. For more seasons than I can remember, being "just good enough" to get to the tourney" - by tourney you're meaning the NCAAT? - has been a level we could only watch from a distance. Come to think of it, we don't typically rate good enough to make the NIT that often, either.
Some like to call our MBB program a former elite program from once upon a time, but that only lasted 5 years or so - after that we have another stretch of 5 yrs or so of being pretty good, plus another 5 yrs of being pretty good that is spread out over several decades and several head coaches, then tons and tons of other seasons where we typically had no shot of making the NCAAT. That's not elite by any standard - it's actually not very good, period.
But my main point is, if we are able to get to being a program that regularly is in the NCAAT discussion - and actually makes it there from time to time, and NOT once every other decade - then how top prep BB talent perceives our program will drastically change. How can we recruit the better talent - even in our own state - when other staffs can tell them they'll never even sniff a NCAAT if they come play for us?
That's the huge white elephant in our room right now. No one on our team even has a clue what its like to be a team that goes to the NCAAT. All of what that means - RPIs, national public perceptions, critical game wins, positive focus and momentum - that's all just words from their coaches right now.
Our fanbase has a problem with programs, where once we start seeing positive direction and success out of them, we start expecting them to blow up and become nationally elite instantly. I always want to see steady progressive improvement, because how our programs are perceived traditionally and historically by prep talent means almost as much as how we're perceived currently. And I don't mean from 20-40 years ago, I mean over the past 5-10 years. Because that's what is most relevant to current prospects, and their friends and families.
I actually don't care much at all if we actually win a game in the tournament or not. It would be great if we did, but right now the biggest mountain for our team to hurdle is just actually showing up, and getting recorded on video as evidence that we were part of it all. Then IMO things start changing from there....
As far as the "Omaha" thing on CockyTalk, my God, its nothing but a few posters being fans and some baseball superstition. Which has been a part of baseball since baseball got started during the Civil War days. Its like some Gamecock fans insisting on calling Clemson "Clempson". Its just being fans in a positive way....
