Maybe it's the shite shows we have put on in football this year, but this is the first time since the Devan Downey years I am actually looking forward to the basketball season.

I am excited to see the progression all our players have made during the offseason and we really only lost one contributor last year in Brenton Williams. What do you think is the ceiling for this team?

Good news is SEC isn't the ACC or Big East so we can actually play with almost every team in the conference. Is NIT expecting too much at this point? I'd be thrilled with any post season as I see and like the direction Frank has us going. Notice and Thornwell should be a great back court this year plus if we have either Lithuanian step up with a Carrera bounce back year, I think we have a chance at NIT.

I still hate Horn with all my heart for basically sending the program to the stone age with his inept coaching. Frank at least is showing potential. Liked the way we ended last year with upset of Kentucky, etc.

What do y'all think?

I think an NIT run is minimum. If he can't at least make the NIT this year, he should be on a 1 year clock after the season and he would have to do something noteworthy (like make the NCAA's next year to stick around.) Although, really, who could we even get to replace him?!?!

As bad as our BBall program has been since Odom left, I would take making a run in the NIT this year, and winning the NIT next year...which would hopefully build to an NCAA appearance in 3 seasons from now.

Really, my expectation is for him to be over .500 this year. This is the most talent we've had on the court since 2011 (if you look at star rankings and shite) but that DH squad ate a big fat dick going 10-21 and 2-14 in the SEC.

I'm looking forward to both men's and women's basketball this year.

Martin typically does really well in his third year.

Staley ... well, she's supposed to have the dream team this year, we shall see.

I'm thinking Final 4 is a real possibility for the womens' team this year. She's recruited really well for 3 years, and we have Aja now, who is all world everything.

Yeah it's pretty incredible what Staley has done here. She took a cellar dweller nearly dead program and has turned it into a powerhouse. We've already gotten a couple of Sweet 16s and an SEC title under our belt, I think they're poised to do a lot more for the foreseeable future.

As for the Men's. Football is #1 for most of us Gamecocks, myself included, but I grew up loving Men's basketball. I went to Eddie Fogler basketball camp as a kid around the time we crushed the SEC. Still have a picture of me and Antonio Grant who hit a couple of game-winning shots for us. I'm ready for us to be relevant again. I'm in my 1st year of a Master's program now.. I was in the 8th grade the last time we made the SEC tournament.

We gotta be around the same age. I still remember coming off the bus in 1997 to find out we lost to Coppin State. Internet scoreboards weren't around back then. That sucked bad. Loved BJ McKie and Larry Davis.

I can't remember the exact details, I went to the camp 2 years in a row and I believe McKie made some kind of surprise appearance. Have no idea if that's because he was on the team but just not a part of the camp, or had just graduated the year prior.

I do miss the Coliseum. Got to play on it a couple of times for the camp. Now that is a college basketball venue.

I agree and I'm pretty excited to see what our MBB team will do this season. I think we will make some noise in the SEC this year, especially after how we ended last year. Think NIT's a real possibility as well. We're 30 days away folks!

My expectations are to go at least .500 overall and get 7 conference wins. I think that'd be enough to get into the NIT as well but I'm not sure

I'm pretty excited though and think the team could exceed those expectations by a lot. We finally get a true PG back in Tyrone Johnson, Thornwell and Notice and go back to playing 2/3 respectively, and I really liked what I saw out of Chatkevicious at the end of the year. If he can continue to play at that level and give us a legit big man threat for the first time in a lot time then this team could shock some people.

We'll find out quickly how good this team is with Baylor and the Charleston Classic on the schedule before December
