Said he came to a game and some fans were heckling some of our players.

Anybody know anything about this?

I question how Jay Phillips would know to begin with: he's just a radio sports jock, but never chases prep prospects nor spends much time talking to them or keeping up with USC recruiting in sports. He's not like Kornblut or others who's jobs specifically involved recruiting. So I wonder how he could have gotten to even talk to a "top" prospect.

Unfortunately, I can believe that we would have some fans that would heckle kids playing an amateur sport. I have always said that the world's biggest idiots can be found residing in South Carolina. We totally flayed poor Chris Smelley during his time at USC and played a huge role in him deciding to transfer out. People love to talk about how loyal and supportive our fanbses are in SC for collegiate sports, but a lot of those very same people are also some of the most humiliating and ugly examples of sports fans too. They also gave Clemson's Jack Leggett a rough time in his final years at CU to the point that he went into the stands after them a couple of times, but at least that's a coach and not a player.

I would have to think that if true, it came during the Texas A&M series. USC was 29-2 at home until that series, and I can't see a whole lot worthy of fans' contempt in home games prior to that.

Overall, attending, watching, and listening to EVERY game USC has played this season (minus 2 or 3) - especially the home games - I have heard nothing but raucous support, cheering and positive chatter. I'm sure there are a few that would be ugly - see my thoughts above - but IMO a prospect would have to search through all the cheering fans to find it.

UNless that prospect and his family ended up sitting next to the morons, then that would be pretty embarrassing. But I think a prospect seriously considering USC would be able to see the vast positivity overwhelming the minor negativity, and come away understanding that OVERALL, our fanbase supports our team as much as any other program's, and more so than most. So the prospect perhaps wasn't that serious about USC in the first place...

There were two prospects sitting directly behind me In section 11 at the Saturday game of the A&M series, and they were treated really well. Also, not much heckling in that section. Just the guy who screams for the opposing pitcher to throw it in the dirt every play, but he is pretty entertaining in a way.

There was a specific recruit they were talking about but I was only half listening so I can't remember if it was a report from a Kornblut type or the kid straight up said it.

This is meant as a criticism of our fanbase? Heckling the rival's coach?

I didn't know he was interested in USC sports given the fact that he pretty much only talks about music and movies on air.

And soccer... don't forget about soccer. That show is way better when its Tim and Trey Dyson filling in.

No. I was talking about the type of people that live within the state of South Carolina. I was talking about Clemson fans heckling the Clemson baseball HC to the extent that he goes into the stands after them. Clemson is a university that resides within the state of South Carolina....

Pretty sure it was the way you originally worded it that caused the confusion bc I understood it to say the same thing Cockopotamus appeared to interpret it as.

I thought you were saying Leggett went into the stands after OUR fans bc we were heckling him. I didn't realize that you were actually referring to tater fans doing it to Leggett to the point that he went into the stands after them until I read your reply to Cockopotamus.
