Just saw on 247 that Tony Morrell(Sp) has heard that not only is the coaching staff considering playing Bentley, that they are on the verge of pulling the trigger and having him play next week. Thoughts?

I'm of the opinion that yes, he needs PT. Him and BMac will battle it out next year and if he wins, I'd rather him have some real game experience.

Same.

I rather build for the future than win 5 or 6 games instead of 3 or 4.

I'd be down with him & Mcilwain playing for the rest of the year at the QB spot. There is absolutely no reason you should see Orth in a game anymore. He just doesn't bring enough to warrant him playing over both of the true Fr.

I'm against this. This season is a wash, why waste the opportunity to redshirt him?

Our problems go far beyond QB. Inserting another True Fr, with our OL play being as awful as it is, really benefits no one.

Maybe he can pass better than Orth and McIlwain, but it still does nothing to fix the fact that our OL can't block for shite. Our running game likely won't improve.

I still think McIlwain will develop into a good QB - he just makes questionable decisions because he almost immediately has pressure in his face each play. Fix the OL, then let the QBs duke it out.

I can see where your coming from but I think some other factors come into play. I agree that McIlwain will get better. There are a lot of reads that he is being asked to make that he just can't right now. Playing Orth does open up some more of the passing game but it takes away more plays or at the very least the threat of plays in the run game. Playing Bentley at this point, imo, plays a big factor into recruiting. If we continue to play like we are playing #1 the narrative that we are turning this around goes out the window. #2 negative recruiting with the "he didn't have an offense at UF" runs rampant.

I, like all of us, think the OL is atrocious. However, in pass plays the QBs do have time to get the ball out most of the time. They do get blown up sometimes. The run game is where they fall flat on their face. I think if Bentley is in, the passes to Edwards and Samuel when they beat their man by a step or two get made, points go up, and the vertical game has to be accounted for. This can help open the run, not as much as it would with a servicable OL but more than it was.

I don't like this at all... I really think red shirting Bentley is in our best interest because if we have both of them playing now, somebody will transfer/

Reminds me of 1992 I think it was ... I forget the name of the QB we had, started with an M maybe, wore number 11. Helluvan arm but was shite running the offense.

So we had this hotshot QB out of Pennsylvania ... they were gonna redshirt him but after five games decided to play him. Taneyhill was his name. We had not won a single game .... Taneyhill comes in, upsets MSU, we go on a tear. Should have beaten Florida honestly, did beat Tennessee. Beat Clemson.

Who knows.

Would give anything for a turnaround like that this year.

Wright Mitchell with Blake Williamson playing some before we started Tannyhill. I think Blake still saw the field for goalline situations even after Tannyhill got the start.

Edit: Looked up the stats and both Mitchell and Williamson's pass attempts together are less than half of Tannyhill's. Wtf were we doin before that MSU game?

I think we should redshirt him personally. I know he's got more NFL potential than Shaw, but when Shaw got those few plays in against Auburn his freshmen year, it wasn't worth him not being to play in 2014.

Blake was an stone cold arse hat ... sold him a spot at one of my first investment property tailgating spots. Really wanted to punch that punk frick in the face but didn't want to deal with the broken metacarpals.

He threw the winning fake pass at Baton Rouge in that rainstorm if I remember correctly ... fake something or other.

Taneyhill though, he just exuded winning. Guy could move in the pocket and make it happen.

Who knows.

History repeats itself?

Mitchell quit the team midseason all butthurt.

Taneyhill had that "it" factor, dude didn't give a damn he just played. The team looked up to him too. We could use someone like that again.

I talked to Taneyhill last Saturday night at Group. Swung in there to watch the end of A&M/Tennessee, and he came by our booth to greet us. Cool dude.

It's not that bad. Tons of TV's, all of the games on. Plus, it was like 7:30, so it wasn't sketchy yet.

It was jam packed.

Not sure why he wouldn't

But it was a weird crowd. Lot of weird GDIs with goatees and cargo shorts.

Probably wore jerseys to the game that day too.

God the GDI's run rampant in there. Got the same vibe every time I went. Very off putting.
