Ryan Bartow put in his Crystal Ball for us on Bentley this morning. The interesting thing now is Braxton Burmeister. I asked Tony Morrell this question yesterday and didn't get a real answer one way or the other.

One would think that a QB like Burmeister may be put off knowing our likelihood of landing Bentley. However, not only is Burmeister showing interest, he decommitted from Arizona, is planning a visit to Columbia, and when interviewed about his decision to leave Arizona, he talked mainly about USC. I think getting one of these guys would be great, but I can't help but think with all of the info given that we may stand a real chance of having staying power with both.

Either QB is a stud, and we would be lucky to have either. I think Bentley has legit interest in Stanford, and if he qualifies to get in there, he very well might go. I wouldn't blame him either.

The plot THICKENS.... 4 star QB Davis Mills who is the #4 pro style QB currently ranked 2 spots ahead of Bentley just committed to Stanford!

Pretty sure Burmeister, Bentley, and Logan Rudolph were all at practice yesterday.

He's a major major get for sure but ... it's a long ways away until Signing Day.

We're going to have to really work his family hard to keep him in the fold between now and then.

News came out today that Jake Bentley has enough credits to graduate high school early and will be joining the Gamecocks this summer as a 2016 recruit instead of playing his senior year!

Looks like this was the main factor in getting him to enroll early. He's locked in!

He's enrolling this summer. Really good news for us. I would think he's a lock to redshirt, but now he can be onsite to visit with all the other visiting recruits this cycle.

Yea I liked the idea of having at least one, potentially two years between McIlwain and Bentley. Now there might not be even one.

But on the plus side I think these two will be the clear cut favorites competing for the job in fall camp pushing each other to get better and we have some cushion between the starter and Perry Orth of one gets hurt

That could be true, but you also have to take into account who we are going to recruit in the '17, '18 and so on classes. Muschamp-Roper-McClendon-Bentley are going to put us in contact and contention with elite level QB's in the coming seasons. We very well may have a '18 or '19 prospect who even eclipses the ones we have now.

I'm looking at it this way; we signed a high 4* Elite 11 QB for the '16 class, and now we have another guy who is a high 4* probable Elite 11 QB coming in as well. The competition b/w those two is going to be fierce. Somebody is going to get really good and it's going to benefit the whole team.

That plus we have already had Braxton Burmeister come all the way from La Jolla, CA to check us out. While it is unlikely that we pull him from the west coast, we are generating interest with big time guys before our coaches have even stepped onto the field.

I asked this question on the main board, but I’m afraid it will get lost in the pissing contest. Curious on your opinions

Football question for SCAR fans. It’s a great thing to bring in 2 big time QB in one year. From an outsiders perspective, it seems this could hurt down the road. Bentley will more than likely redshirt. But if Mcllwain is as good as advertised, does that mean Bentley will sit for 4 years? If so, wouldn’t you be better served to have some class separation?

That would typically be the best case, yes. However with the state of our program, we have to put the best player on the field. Tbh, mcilwain is a great athlete, but idk if he's guaranteed to beat out Bentley. Should be a close race.

Also, we will now have 4 4 star qbs. mitch doesn't have the mental edge, Nunez is a great athlete but may be better at wr. Point is, you never know who will love up to the hype and the competition between the two will make sure whoever wins is damn good.

if McIlwain is as good as advertised, Bentley might just sit for 3 years (go pro early,) or the situation could be vice-versa. Or some QB we get in '17 or '18 might be the best QB we've ever had and neither sees the field after that guy gets here. We'll find out in a few years. The competition will make everyone better. Right now our QB situation is so unknown that it's anyone's game.
