He and fans get into it about why he is leaving John Jones in the lineup. Jones was hot early this year and then has done squat (cept 1 game vs bama) for the pas 6 weeks.

This reminds me of the story about The Optimist, The Pessimist, and The Leader who were stuck in an epic duldrum on a sailboat. The Optimist is like Holbrook, he just thinks the wind will come and things will get better. The Pessimist thinks the wind will never come and we are fricked. The Leader mans the lines and changes the sails to catch what wind there is. That is what Holbrook should be doing.

It is one thing to stand by your player, it is another to sacrifice your team to stand by 1 player. Jones should be like everyone else, until he shows he has it again in practice, somebody else should be playing the DH spot on the games.

I thought the Bama game would be a new break out for him, but we may be better when Destino DH's and Hopkins plays CF.

Cone
Mooney
Destino
DTW
Bride
Cullen
Stokes 2b
Hopkins
Tolbert 1b

I like that line up better at the moment.

Sometimes when a batter is in a slump like Jones has been in, it's better for him to sit a while and pinch hit occasionally instead of being in the lineup everyday with constant pressure to produce at the plate. That's my feeling anyway.

Jones had 2 AB's today, also got 2 strikeouts...and we'll continue to say the same thing next week unless Holbrook makes a change.

Jones' stats over the past 34 games (32 of which he's played in):

BA: .155 (18/116); .258 OBP
Ks: 43 (37% of official ABs, 33% of every plate appearance), 16 BB (2.69 K/BB ratio)
16 RBI, about a run every other game
5 games with 2 or more hits
14 games with 2 or more Ks

Jones simply hasn't produced enough to be our regular DH for the second half of the season; he needs a break. Maybe it would be good for him.
