Rivals.com has an interesting function where you can view the high school by class and see the kids star rating and where they signed.

Well done Coach BMac, everything is going according to plan.....

4* WR, Ryan Jones, from Mallard Creek HS, & teammates with SC Commits Douglas and Moore, has decommited from unc.

As expected, unc is saying he can't academically qualify for them.....lol. Right, like unc has ever had a problem getting or keeping players qualified...lol.

He has unc listed as his favorite and SC is now COOL. 247 insiders don't think we have any interest in him though.

Smart. It's garbage compared to 247.

Welcome to the club. I can find no redeeming values in that network and particularly the Gamecock site located there.

Lol

Seriously though, rivals just updated their state rankings. We now have 4 of the top 5 and most of the top 10 in SC for 2017.

I keep hearing there are going to be quite a few prospects there tomorrow ... I hope we show some fight.

In the meantime I got to see this kid at Gilbert in action last Friday night. He's a big kid that can run, a lot of power and deceptive speed. Heard he has grade issues though. Must be something given that we have not even invited him for a visit.

The name to remember in the Midlands, folks, is Caitrez Cook. RB for Gilbert is a man carrying the rock.

Confirmed unofficial guests

The following non-committed prospects have confirmed with SEC Country that they plan to visit South Carolina on Saturday for the Texas A&M game:

2017 DL Matthew Butler – Garner, N.C.
2018 OL Warren Ericson – North Gwinnett, Ga.
2018 QB Dakereon Joyner – North Charleston, S.C.
2018 TE Zach Sheffer – Ponte Vedra, Fla.
2018 WR Sam Pinckney – Greenwood, S.C.
2018 QB Brayden Hawkins – Dillon, S.C.

Darius Rush of Murray High School in Greeleyville, S.C. will also attend the game. However, the 2018 wide receiver will be sitting with his family in their seats. He does plan to visit as a recruit for the Georgia game.

As usual, the list is fluid, prospects are likely to be added and removed over the 24 hours or so.

More on Sterling

SEC Country has documented Aaron Sterling’s decision to de-commit from Alabama. So has his interest in South Carolina.

Phil Kornblut recently caught up with the defensive lineman from Tucker (Ga.) High School for more on the Gamecocks.

“I think highly of South Carolina,” Sterling said. “Coach (Travaris Robinson) and coach Muschamp, they were honest with me and told me straight up how they want to use me and told me my chances of playing and stuff. They were totally honest with me.”

So the Smith kid outta Brunswick has decommitted I guess. Wonder what is up with that?

Writing on the wall - he sees all these other young WRs playing plus he looks at the two South Carolinian Smiths committed?

I just about had a heart attack when I read the news that WR Smith had decommitted. Opened the email and saw it was Shawn Smith. Says he doesn't feel that with our other WR commits and talking with coaches, he's a priority for us any longer. Without reading too much into things, with that kind of statement he makes it sound like he feels like he can't compete with Shi or Tre. Wish him the best regardless.

To me personally, I think we are going after someone else. He knew before he committed that we were going after Shi and Ortre hard and that they were clearly higher priority than him. Ortre committed almost a month ago. What is interesting is that Smith was here for the aTm game and it was after that visit that he made his decision. As usual, I could be reading too much into it.

Also something of note that went unmentioned on this board is the glaring absence of T.J Moore from the aTm game. Eric Douglas, his team mate and current commitment, said he had no idea why Moore wasn't there and that he did not know before hand that he wouldn't be there.

What I think it might be, and what I think may have happened during his visit is that ... he looked around and saw Edwards, Samuel and Davis on the sidelines - then he saw the other three guys out there playing against A&M who were supposed to redshirt - then he thought about Shi and O'tre, ... and he said to himself, "self, there are eight guys in front of me before I even get started. I need to find a place that needs me more ... "

I wish him well. Seems like a really good kid. Not sure where all this "4 star" recommit stuff is coming from? I thought he was a consensus 3 star?

I do believe we'll use that opening/scholarship on a highly rated player at another position though.

I think it's referring to Stephen Guidry top JUCO WR. Was committed then went to LSU and decommitted after Miles was fired.
