Per espn

quote:

Will Muschamp's first full class in Columbia has the look of both quality and quantity. ESPN 300 Shi Smith will bring much needed speed and playmaking to the offense, while Under Armour All-American Jamyest Williams will bring play making to the cornerback position as well as the return game. ESPN 300 tight end Will Register is a quality scheme fit. Another ESPN 300 playmaker is Hamsah Nasirildeen, who could end up on either side of the ball. An impactful in-state win was ESPN 300 athlete OrTre Smith, a Clemson legacy. Offensive lineman Eric Douglas II and Summie Carlay will bring needed depth, while ESPNJC50 No. 18 Dennis Daley will be expected to compete from Day 1 at tackle in Columbia. ESPN 300 defensive tackle M.J. Webb was a needed grab out of the Peach State, as was receiver Chad Terrell. Florida is a key battleground state for the Gamecocks, and the early returns have yielded running back Kyshaun Bryan and cornerback Tavyn Jackson. Three-star linebacker Sherrod Greene is a name to remember, as is safety Jaylin Dickerson out of North Carolina. The quarterback in the class is three-star in-state prospect Jay Urich

I just got back from the basketball game ... sat with the old boys tonight.

Word is that we're gonna close incredibly strong with this class. I hope my guys are right. I mean close really sckrong.

My numbers this year are 9 & 17. I don't have a chance do I?

We are at 15 right now looking to take 4. Because of that I find it difficult to move down two, but I would also say unlikely to get up to 9

We're going to close strong enough to maybe get to 9 if everyone else stayed where they are now I guess ... but that's not gonna happen.

If we finish Top 15 or better that would be pretty good.

Shoot for Top 10 with this next class.

Tbh I could see 17 even if we close as expected...teams below us aren't close to full could see a few jumping us. It isn't likely but not out of the realm of possibility.

Who's left? Top priorities... if we keep everyone we have, in a perfect world, what four do we close with?

Well there are a couple of reasons that I don't personally think we dip below 15. 1) Again, we have 4 more that we potentially take. Even though other teams are still taking players, it is highly unlikely that they take significantly more than 4 if they take more than 4 at all. 2) they would potentially have to take guys that are rated higher than our guys. While on average we have mid 3* guys, 4*s and above are mostly spoken for and the teams in contention for the rest are already ranked higher than we are.

To answer the other question about who are the final 4. Assuming we keep everyone, which I think is likely, I think our 4 are as follows:

Javon Kinlaw 4* DT it is between us and Southern Cal, we have the home state and final OV advantages in our favor plus he didn't seem to be all that thrilled with his visit there.

Aaron Sterling high 3* rivals has him at 4* I believe Defensive end. This is our pass rusher for the year. High motor, one time Bama commit. Went to high school with DJ Wonnum. Guy is solid.

Jordon Carty 3* OT. Talked about him above. Super high ceiling but will def have to redshirt. Do work Wolford.

Finally this years flip Devonte Wyatt 3* DT. Unless we get a Stephon Taylor scenario like last year where someone comes out of left field, this is the guy that is most likely imo. I'm not 100% on this I just can't think of someone more likely. Solid guy, freak speed for his size.

Figured Kinlaw and Wyatt. Forgot about Sterling, and didn't know much about Carty. I wasn't sure if Tony Gray may be in that final 4 or if we have no shot with him.

a lot of teams have cooled on Gray. From what I hear he didn't have the senior season or all star game performance that would necessarily warrant the 4* that he has. Carty and Sterling haven't been talked about a lot. Sterling because once he decommitted from Bama and we got him on campus it was all but a done deal. He has taken some trips but has felt very comfortable with our staff. Carty is a guy that a lot of teams have sniffed around but until recently was thought to be more of a placement guy. Apparently he may qualify outright.

I wish I knew who the flip could be but I've got no idea ... all I know is that it's supposed to make for a strong close.

I tend to believe it's going to be a a DE/DT from UGA simply because in the last 24 hrs UGA has made a last minute back-up offer to a DE/DT up in NC who is currently committed to Ole Miss.

Now, as I understand it we've also approached the kid which means we could be thinking back-up offer as well and that Ole Miss commits are vulnerable right now.

Someone at UGA is definitely in play though.

So if I'm following, you are thinking it could end up almost exactly like Stephon Taylor did last year which was he was committed to Texas and Texas had someone higher on their board flip to them and we got Taylor as a result in the 11th hour.

Am I following that right? If UGA gets someone that they want more than their present guy we get him by default? Or that UGA is going after someone else because they think we will steal one from them?

That makes me think Wyatt. Georgia is still in the running for Aubrey Solomon.

But I don't consider Wyatt a "game-changing" flip since he was on board with us before.

Gibbs is already enrolled at UGA.

UGA made an offer to the JUCO DL because we are not going to get Solomon and we need to fill that spot on the DL. I'm 99.9% confident Beal ends up in Athens. Far less confident in Wyatt, though.

I think, FWIW which is just a WAG based upon ear-to-the-ground stuff ... but I think it's that Wyatt may be coming back to us and we're going to get Johnson - but that there may be a surprise and it's gotta be a DLineman ... I think, but who knows.

They sure are upbeat and hitting the road hard over there right now though ... working late, lights on past midnight last night. Some of them are sleeping over there right now.

We've never had a staff work like this recruiting. Not ever. Not even close. Flying in, flying out, flying back in, jumping in a car and hauling butt to see someone local, then sleeping in the office ... all in one day.

These guys will not be fired for being lazy, that's for damn sure.

Williams is now having a final ceremony.

Hope he's just an attention whore and doesn't flip. I hate when committed players do this shite.

I've got a bad feeling about Williams, but did see where Beal is now OV'ng here on January 27. Not sure if us being last has any bearing on it or not.
