My wife (a professor at USC) mentioned to me today that enrollment has dipped here and has risen at that school from the upstate. The administration is saying that it's because of last year's football championship.

As if the signs they put up around the state weren't bad enough, now this. What do you think would it take to restore balance (at least in enrollment) within the state?

A few wins in the football series, an SEC championship in either men's basketball or football, or even a return to prominence in baseball.

I don't think very many people pick a school based on their football program, but that's just my opinion.

But if we go by that logic, making the Sweet 16 (and hopefully further) helps.

Ok I guess I'm off base then. If it's popular enough to have a moniker

I Don't think this will have a long-term affect, unless Clemson continues to have sustained success at that level. Alabama has won a ton of national titles in recent years, but no one is still talking about the 2009 or 2011 ones.

Of course, I know Clemson will now talk about the title they just won for 30-40 years like they just won it, like they did with the 1981 title. I was just starting to think we were finally starting to get past having to deal with that shite, when they started playing for titles all over again.

It's really beaten me down as far as being an enthusiastic college sports fan....

Look, if you pick a school based on football you're fricking retarded. That being said, if my son wants to be an engineer he's going to Georgia tech regardless of what Clemson offers in scholarship money.

Considering the out-of-state applications that SC schools get, particularly from the Northeast, I'd have to say Clemson's boost is almost entirely due to their championship.

Kids from outside the Southeast who just want to go to college where there is good weather will ultimately make their decision based on things like the football atmospheres/party environments.

SC's application rate was booming during the height of the Spurrier area. The Sweet 16 may help us - it helped George Mason immensley when they made their run years ago.

Doesn't matter what their fb team does.. a lot of people end up getting bored up there in Taterville. A lot of girls I knew while at USC were Clemson transfers because they just couldn't stand more than 1 year up there.
