Before you blast me per my inside sources you may want to take a look at This Link From 09. I couldnt find the thread from when he took the texas job.

Im not sure if South Carolina ever offered, but I do know that have contacted through the back channels. Not sure if they are wanting him as a coach or just asking him about his opinion about certain prospects.

Now, I have said all the info be sure to say something nice about me. :)

Charlie Strong would be awesome. But I highly doubt he ends up here.

Good luck to Strong in all his endeavors, however, I don't think that it will be at SC as a HC.

Makes sense, I'm sure that's one of many Tanners looking at, atm.

I don't believe it.

I used to know Charlie pretty well and unless he's changed dramatically he is very guarded and keeps things too close to the vest to let anything slip mid season at his legacy job while he's still fighting to turn it around.

I think option #2 is more accurate. It happens all the time during coaching searches. I think around december, you guys will have a new coach.

I do not think Strong would be offered by USC. AD Tanner may entertain an application by Strong to throw in as a candidate to be the new HC but 1) I doubt very seriously Strong would do it even if his ground at Texas was even shakier than it is and his firing was imminent, and 2) I doubt USC would hire him anyways.

I also doubt very highly that we'd even put out "feelers" to him for any advice he could give us as to candidates for the job. In other words, I'd be very surprised if we've reached out to him at all at this point, unless it was made by some clueless trustee or booster that still exists from the old days (which USC has a few of them) that is still haunting the USC athletics. You know, the kind that kept USC athletics mired in mediocrity in the olden days...

That was never really a problem ... not really, not any trustees or boosters, not anymore than anywhere else.

It was a problem with past Presidents and ADs though. No doubt about that. Especially during the Holderman years. Also, we've suffered through huge problems with the city government, some of the locals, taterheads within the state government and The State newspaper.

Charlie Strong is making over 5 million. Texas just fired the idiot Athletic Director. As much as I do not care for texas university and would love to see them continue to flop around aimlessly, Charlie is not going anywhere...that also includes Miami.

Hey ... FWIW, I did a little checking on this, this morning at my Wednesday breakfast meeting.

It's total bullshite and it ain't happening ... probably never.

As I was told, everyone wishes Charlie well, hopes the best for him at Texas, likes him, yada yada. (I knew that but it was re-confirmed this morning.)

But why he will never be asked to return here is still fresh on the minds of powers that be.

When Charlie left here and went to Florida, he retained a lot of his recruiting contacts here in SC naturally ... that's okay, that's life. But Charlie went "over the line" negative recruiting against us, while at Florida, over a SC kid named Carlos Dunlap outta Charleston.

So, even though some of the things Strong reportedly said to Dunlap, who had grown up a Gamecock fan, were over the line ... he was basically forgiven for that one transgression. It was considered "business," even though he reported used words like, "I was a coach there, I know this and that and you do not wanna go there ... they can't win there, etc."

Then it happened again, not with one, but with several players Strong was trying to recruit to Louisville from the state of SC. All four players signed with SC but told SC coaches things they had allegedly been told during the process by Strong ... and he burned his bridges here as far as ever returning.

So it ain't happenin' ... Charlie is sink or swim at Texas.

I remember when Dunlap committed. In his PC he was basically apologizing for going to UF. I remembered thinking that he must have been hit pretty hard with some ultra-negative stuff.

Yeah, it kinda shocked me because I thought I remembered and knew Charlie to be better than that - and I hate to repeat some of the things I was told, for many reasons ... but Charlie put the real negative stuff on us for Dunlap, and evidently did the same thing again with several players here in SC once he got to Louisville.

I'll share the big one - and it really pisses me off if he really said it to the kids. It had to do with him being married to Vicki and how we viewed the marriage here at SC among our fans.

Total bullshite. Everyone that I know of was always totally respectful to Charlie and Vicki ... I know for a fact she was treated like royalty here by everyone and I never once heard of any comments being made about her being white and him being black.

Charlie will not be invited back here ... not ever IMHO. Everyone wishes him well, but if he truly played the race card he burned his bridge.

If thats the case, then F strong in the A with a big 'ol spikey D.

I always thought it felt odd for him to take that lateral move to florida, but just figured he wanted instant championship and maybe a HC in waiting type thing.
I actually now hope he puts texas job so deep in the hole they won't ever recover, something along the lines of al golden further wrecking miami.

Sounds like Charlie is matched perfectly with a school that meets his M.O.

I know you guys hate that he did that to USC but if he was the best choice as a coach I would not let that hold me back from hiring him. Negative recruiting has been going on for years and years. Most people are not above doing it at this point in time.

We know this all too well.

I didn't know about all of the CS stuff other than that he felt he and his wife were frowned upon. I also never thought for one minute that he was a legit candidate.
