The amazing thing about Shuler is everything I've heard is he'll be better than Seventh Woods if he continues to improve. Would be amazing.

That's what the HS coaches and Gunter are saying, I'll believe it when I see his offer list Seventh is the best player our of SC I've seen since Ray Felton and BJ McKie. I probably just need to watch more of this guy's highlight reels, maybe. However, at this point, McKie already had a list of offers and agent runners trying to talk to him around Irmo. BJ was good enough to play in the NBA his Sr year in HS.

Some women's BB news: former UNC Tarheel SG Alisha Gray has signed financial papers with and is transferring to South Carolina. Gray, a former 5* prospect in the 2013 class, will sit out next season as per NCAA transfer rules, and will have 2 years of playing eligibility left beginning in 2016-17.

Gray joins former GT wing Kaela Davis who earlier transferred to USC, and who will also have to sit out. Davis like Gray was a former 5* prospect and the overall #1 prospect per several online services in 2013 (others had UT's Mercedes Russell the overall #1. ESPN Hoopgurlz had Davis #2 to Russell, and ahead of #3 Diamond DeShields).

Also former Maryland Terp post Sarah Imovbioh, who already earned her degree from MD in only 3 yrs, chose to transfer her senior year to USC as a post-graduate transfer. She will play immediately next season and have 1 year to play.

This is some great wealth of talent Coach Staley has gotten via the transfer route. Both Davis and Gray were highly rated 5* players in the 2013 cycle, and Gray was part of the overall #1-rated class in the nation for UNC. DeShields was the first to transfer out last yr. to Tennessee, and will play for them next season. Gray reportedly left UNC over concerns she has with the Tarheel women's program in the shadow of the NCAA academic investigation and forthcoming penalties.

-----------

Imovbioh was the ACC's leading rebounder last season, and a career dbl-digit scorer. She also was 3rd in the ACC in FG%, and led the ACC in FG% her freshman year, so she's a very efficient scorer.

Davis was the 3rd-leading scorer in the ACC last season at 19.2 ppg, and led GT.

Gray was the 8th-leading scorer in the ACC at 15.8 ppg, and led UNC in scoring. She's also an excellent rebounding guard at 6-0 averaging 7.6 rebounds last season, 2nd on UNC.

It's a shame all 3 former ACC girls won't play in games together: Imovbioh will have graduated by the time both Davis and Gray are allowed to play. Otherwise it would be an ACC all-star game reunion of sorts.

But add these great talents to what we already on the roster, and USC IMO is in position to continuing to compete for NCs for the next 3 yrs....

Seriously ... it would seem she is possibly laying the groundwork for a dynasty.

We gotta win a couple of national championships over the course of the next few years - not an easy task with UConn and Geno - not to mention UT and ND - all vying for the same title.

“They’ve been contacting me a little bit,” said Keita. “I’ve talked to Coach Frank Martin and I took a visit down there about a month or two months ago. Clemson, too, has been after me a little bit. They came to see a few of my games.”

“They think that I can fit in pretty good,” said Keita. “ South Carolina, they play a really fast pace and they have an incoming 2015 big, Chris Silva, and they said we’re pretty similar. So, they said I would be able to fit in with him.”

“I think my motor is probably my best thing, I try to rebound and block shots,” said Keita. “I’m trying to improve my 15-footer, my three-point shot and, definitely, my post game.”

“There is a lot to get out [of this experience],” said Keita. “Just trying to soaking in having NBA players as our coaches and just having fun, you know. Just trying to get better and to range yourself, you know, because there’s a lot of top players out here so you want to see where you’re at.”

“It definitely does [help my drive],” said Keita. “You watch some other players and you see how good they are and it just makes you want to work harder.”

Keita is considered to be a four-star prospect with a rating of 95 by 247Sports’ Jerry Meyer. Meyer lists Keita as the 59th best player in the class of 2016 and the 14th best power forward in the country.

quote:

Chris Silva had never flown in a plane in his life before he took four different flights to get from Gabon, Africa to John F. Kennedy International Airport on a mid-September day in 2012.

He didn't speak English, either, and he had never played organized basketball. But he had four words for Tommy Sacks when the Roselle Catholic assistant coach picked him up.

"Coach," Silva said, "I go NBA."

quote:

"The day he got off the plane, we went right to the gym," Sacks said. "His ceiling is so high, one of the highest I've ever seen, because all he wants to do is get better. He wants to live in the weight room. He wants to run on his own. He wants to work out. He wants to get shots up."

Three years have passed since Silva's arrival. Three years of working out with Sacks and Roselle Catholic's staff has put more than 30 pounds of muscle on a frame that still has room for more, and helped turn him from a project into one of the best college prospects in the country who is now committed to play next season for South Carolina.

Silva is one of the big reasons Roselle Catholic is the favorite in Monday's Tournament of Champions final against Pope John — and he has shined on the T of C stage before, helping shut down current Kentucky star and projected NBA lottery pick Karl-Anthony Towns when the Lions won the 2013 title. As impressive as Silva was that night, he has gotten even better.

Well, we have a situation.

https://sportstalksc.com/index.php/2015/07/01/strecruiting-bunch-says-hes-headed-to-usc-another-clemson-baseball-commitment/

quote:

6-11 Travon Bunch of Racine, WI, who committed to USC in early March, said Wednesday he is set to join the Gamecocks this month. Bunch, who played last season at Score Academy in Chapel Hill, NC, has not been officially announced as part of the 2015 class by Gamecock coach Frank Martin. Bunch needed to get a qualifying score on the entrance exam he took in early June and he said he achieved that. “I’m still heading to South Carolina,” Bunch said. “I’ll be attending the next summer school session.” Bunch said he would be arriving at USC the second week of July. If Bunch is actually in the fold, the Gamecocks would have 14 scholarship players at this point, one over the limit by the time schools starts in August. Martin said earlier this week 6-4 signee Jamall Gregory is waiting on a final grade to be posted and won’t make it in before August.

I thought Bunch was a longshot to qualify. I wonder how Frank is going to handle this if Gregory qualifies too?

Gregory has a better offer list and is slightly higher rated, but he's a SG and we have several good SG's. Bunch is a big Center and I think his frequent transfers and academics are why he didn't have a better offer list.

I don't think we thought both Cobb and/or Bunch would qualify, so we offered Doby and he flipped from DePual. We are in a tight fit now, if the Bunch info is accurate. Someone is going to have to grayshirt or transfer.

We have a bigger need for tall post players than shooting guards/small forwards.

Ruh Roh.

My guess is that Bunch will be grey shirted.

It is a bit of a pickle.

forward Eric Cobb has not yet been admitted to school and has not yet enrolled at South Carolina. The hope is that he will be admitted in time to start classes on Wednesday.

Center Travon Bunch has not been admitted to school and has not been given an enrolling date by the coaching staff, despite what he’s told other media.

If Cobb gets in...awesome. I think Bunch might be in a holding pattern until we find out about Cobb.

South Carolina offered three-star forward Jalen Johnson (High Point, N.C./Wesleyan Christian) on Friday. Johnson, who plays for Team Wall AAU, had a strong showing over the weekend at an Adidas Uprising event in Atlanta, Ga. The 6-foot-7, 180-pounder has offers from N.C. State and Wake Forest. Clemson was also by to see him play this week.

I'm glad somebody had a camera for this.

Seventh Woods vs Devontae Shuler - AAU July 2015

'16 4* CG Seventh Woods

'17 4* SG Devontae Shuler

I thought Shuler was going to get worked by an older Woods, but Shuler can hold his own. Both guys are awesome and getting both would be program changing.

2016 four-star big man Sedee Keita is down to LSU, Penn State, Providence, South Carolina, Temple and UNLV.

6-9, 225-pounds out of Putnam (Conn.) Putnam Science Academy, Keita is ranked No. 87 in the Top247 and No. 104 in the 247Sports Composite.

Via Jamie Shaw:

quote:

SCar has offered 6'10 2017 Nick Claxton of Legacy Charter School in Greenville, SC.

Claxton is one of the most under rated players in the nation as he is a top 25 type player, however no one has him ranked in their top 100. He currently has offers from Florida St, Wake Forest, Southern Cal, and Baylor. Claxton's dad Charles stands 7'1" and played at Georgia in the early 90s.

Claxton is a very skilled lefty with long arms, handle, & deep range. His game has drawn comparisons to DeMarr Johnson, Lamar Odom, Greg Monroe, and even Kevin Durant.

Dawn Staley finally got a commit for her 2016 class, and it's a good one:

5-6 PG Araion Bradshaw out of Tabor Academy in MA. She's 5*-rated per ESPN's Hoopgurlz, as well as the #10 PG and #32 prospect overall. Bradshaw is also a 4* and overall 78th-rated prospect per Prospect Nation, as well.

It's a start!
