Seeing on Twitter where B-McEIlwain is tearing it up again today (Saturday) ... knocking the cover off the ball, making touch plays look easy in the outfield, etc.
I hate to say this and put a damper on all the football talk, but if this kid is this good on the diamond, it would not surprise me to see him eventually go that way full time and give up football once he realizes how much tougher it is to play two sports at once.
There is precedent for it to happen in our history. The only student athlete I can ever remember being able to do both well was Jeff Grantz back in the mid 70s.
It's very very tough to do and evidently is a real natural on the diamond.

Elway.
"Hall of Fame QB John Elway
Baseball draft: He was drafted twice as an outfielder -- in the 18th round by Kansas City out of high school in 1979 and in the second round by the New York Yankees in 1981.
NFL draft: Elway was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1983 draft, by the Baltimore Colts.
Skinny: Elway didn't want anything to do with the Colts, so he used his baseball talents to force a trade to the Denver Broncos. He took the Broncos to five Super Bowls (they were 2-3 in those games) and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.'

Is Gene Cone still on the roster? I will admit, after last year, I didn't really keep up with many moves during the offseason.
ETA:
What about Hunter Taylor? Thought he was serviceable at catcher last year.

Yes they're both still on the roster. They've just been out played by JUCO & Freshman players so far.

Bride, Dom-Thompson Williams, & John Jones are all JUCO transfers.
Cullen & TJ Hopkins are both True Freshman. Braden Webb the projected Sunday guy is also a true freshman.

One more week to go for the season, boys and girls! Then we'll be up to our necks with exciting Gamecock spring sports to follow, with both basketball teams to go with the baseball season.....
Also about a month away and spring football camp starts too!

Sucks to hear about John Parke.

He did decent last year as a reliever, but we hardly ever used him. He may have seen more action this year, but that's unknown.

6-1 Gamecocks in bottom 4th, Albany going to their BP with Gamecock on 1B and only 1 out. Dom Thompson-Williams thus far is 3 for 3 today with a 2-run homer and 2 runs. John Jones also hit a long double to the OF wall with the bases juiced for 3 RBIs. Thus far the Gamecocks have 7 hits with 2 more out to go in bottom 4th. McIlwain has yet to play today with Tolbert DH-ing thus far...
