We'll be well-rested now?

I don't mind not winning the SEC-T... but the 0-2s and 1-2s when we have a national seed on the line have to stop.

Honestly, we needed to win 2 games in Hoover to lock a National Seed up. Winning 1 game and we would still be on the fence. With 0 wins in Hoover, I'm not expecting a National Seed.

Right now we aren't clicking as a team, we've dropped 5 of the last 11 games. Yes, we lost to teams that are Super Regional or better level, but still, we are a program that should be consistently competing at that highest level and against the best competition.

Ole Miss or LSU will be the 4th national seed at this point. I really hate how bad we sucked it up the last two games. It is what it is... Time to bounce back and make a run into June.

Or Clemson... seems they are peaking at the right time, too.

Carolina Regional begins tomorrow and we have a game against Rhode Island.

Rhode Island is going to pitch their ace, LHP Tyler Wilson, against our ace (Clarke Schmidt.)
Wilson is a guy who's good enough to be on any SEC team's weekend rotation. He's got a 2.08 ERA in 13 games and a 12-1 record this season, to go along with an opp bat avg of .141. He's struck out 111 and walked 28 through 95 innings. He has really good control and his best pitch is his slider.

After Wilson, they are an ok to meh bullpen and their offense hasn't been anything to write home about with a .259 team batting avg and a .333 OBP.

Everyone knows, the key to the post season regionals is "WIN GAME 1" just doing that exponentially increases a team's chances of advancing to the next round. If we can get Wilson rattled early and put up some runs before the 3rd inning, we'll get into the driver's seat.

I'm not even going to start talking about the other teams in our Regional, b/c at this point it's irrelevant...all that matters is WIN GAME 1.

break out your radios and 'tunein' apps Gamecocks - the Columbia regional site was assigned Georgia State grad and UGa mouthpiece Matt Stewart along with ACC homer Jay Walker to call the games on ESPN3.

meanwhile, Mike Morgan was sent to Gainesville.

you and the other 8K Gamecocks who paid to get in should get a refund from 'ol #2's salary.

I know CH was gone when it happened, but why on earth did we bunt Gene Cone in the 9th? Basically just gave up an out with our best hitter at the plate when outs were crucial.

simply astounding, ain't it? lead-off man in the inning being held on at 1B with no outs and our 'braintrust' takes the bat out of our left-handed hitting All-SEC player who had the nation's longest hit streak this season and just happened to crank a HR in the USC's first AB of the night. the hole on the right side of the infield was quite large, but here comes the bunt.

the one thing that has plagued USC at the plate this season is outside of Cone and occasionally Tolbert & Mooney - nobody can foul off "strikes" to stay alive and prolong an AB to frustrate the pitcher. the game changed B4 when Blue lowered his zone for the RI pitcher. USC never adjusted or was able to at least foul off "strikes" to waste the pitch and get to the next one to continue to run up what was already 73 pitches to get the first 9 USC hitters out.

B5 was the worst effort from Carolina as 3 consecutive batters (DTW/Bride/Destino) were all first-pitch outs after Hopkins doubled on a 3 pitch AB to lead off, trailing by a run. Stokes continued the trend leading off B6 on a 1 pitch out to CF. Cullen followed with a 2 pitch out before Arendas (to his credit) walked on 5 pitches. that's 5 consecutive outs in the middle innings after just losing the lead where Carolina showed no poise, intelligence or discipline at the plate. someone on that coaching staff needs to rip into these kids and get their attention before they step into the batters box or make it known they ain't gonna hit at all. unfortunately I don't think that person exists in the USC dugout.

I can't wait to see what the media will say today to defend Holbrook, we just look terrible. Webb only going 3+ innings today against Duke is a joke.

Hill has to go deep 2mr. Hypothetical question: Who would be our pitchers Sun night/Mon? Widener: 48 p Scott: 7 p Johnson: 18 p Webb: 54 p Reagan: 65 p

I would think it'd probably be Widener for Sunday Night if he doesn't come in from pen in the elimination game at noon tomorrow. No idea for Monday.

someone needs to be sticking a microphone in Ray's face everyday about his baseball problem until he openly gets sick of it and snaps.

Webb & Schmidt are both struggling from the 2nd time through orders in their last 4 starts. Jerry needs to be a lot less damn predictable calling pitches in certain counts. it's easy for other coaches to see it on film at this point.

you're right in that Hill is probably gonna have to have the game of his season come noon Sunday and eat innings.

here's the pitch count goin into Sunday;

Friday
Schmidt 89
Scott 7
Widener 48
Reagan 7
Sat
Webb 54
Reagan 58
Johnson 18

so Josh is probably done outside of matching up a hitter or two. Schmidt - done. Webb - maybe something Sunday night should we be lucky to get there. Reed Scott, Colie Bowers, Tyler Haswell & dare we think Brandon Murray are gonna have to all help pull this thing out.
