Good to win the series. Hopefully we get the sweep. We're going to need it. What are we a half game up on UF with them coming to town next week?

Gene Cone now has the record for longest hitting streak in SC History.

outstanding First Team All-SEC with his numbers before today's 5 for 5 and record-breaking day.
hopefully we'll see more of this lineup, and even batting order, next weekend and beyond.
Hopkins could see more AB's if Holbrook would consider flipping the Catcher rotation to Jones Fri/Sat and Cullen/Sun. there are also options at 2B that can perform at or better than Arendas' .972 Fielding % in SEC games too.

Yep ... now is the time for Holbrook to really start paying close attention to his lineup and he needs to keep tweaking it to perfection.
We need Jones to battle his way outta his slump big time, and soon.

Today was his 27th straight game with a hit.

It's also the current national streak

I think I remember this longest hitting streak NCAA wise is like in the 60s or 70s maybe? Feel like I've heard that during a CWS game before

Good gosh .... nine more games to go for Cone. I hope he can do it.

Shouldn't Merrifield be listed in that group? Wasn't he the guy that had the school record before today?
Posted on 4/25/16 at 4:34 am to theGarnetWay
That list is for single-season hitting streaks. Merrifield's former record was achieved over two seasons...

Oh that's bound to get a few reactions on the rant. Don't mind if I steal it, do you?

it's time to turn this regular season series back around to Carolina's favor. USC still holds a 2 game overall lead at 43-41 but it's been ugly since 2009.
O'Sullivan got the job at UF in 2008 and has had the upper hand in regular season play. clearly the Gamecocks have owned the gators in Omaha. Hoover is a nightmare unto itself. UF has made up 9 games in USC's overall series lead since O'sullivan took over.
2008 - Columbia - L, W, W
2009 - Gainesville - L, L, L
2010 - Columbia - L, L, W
2011 - Gainesville - W, L, W ...Omaha - W, W
2012 - Columbia - W, L, L ...Hooover - L / Omaha - W
2013 - Gainesville - L, L, L
2014 - Columbia - W, L, L ...Hoover - L
2015 - Gainesville - L, L, L
...and as i type this the SECN announcer during the OM/MSU game in Pearl just said UF has won 12 of the last 14 games vs USC and did not designate "during the regular season". he also introduced Bianco as the Mississippi State head coach during a 5th inning interview.

Man ... I must have put up a defensive mechanism block in my brain or something - because I did not realize it had gotten that bad vs the Gators.
That's just not good.
We really need to turn it back around this weekend.
Wonder what our overall record is against every team in the SEC? Where would I find that 1801?

Opponent - series record - who leads:
Auburn: 44-22 (USC)~
Alabama: 31-26 (USC)^
Arkansas: 37-31 (ARK)*
Florida: 43-41 (USC)^
Georgia: 64-55 (USC)*
Kentucky: 48-34 (USC)^
Louisiana State: 34-25-1 (LSU)~
Mississippi: 35-22 (USC)*
Mississippi State: 37-31 (USC)~
Missouri: 9-4 (USC)*
Tennessee: 58-36 (USC)*
Texas A&M: 6-1 (USC)^
Vanderbilt: 54-30 (USC)*
So we only have losing series records against just LSU and Arkansas.
* teams USC has already played this season
^ teams USC has yet to play this season
