We lost to kentucky and missouri in back to back seasons, and for the first season in 7 years, we are not likely to make a bowl game. There are 5 directions this program can go from here.

1. Spurrier and the Asst Coaches stay and then we wonder why next year we suck again. If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got.

2. Spurrier stays, but cleans house. Spurrier goes after the best Asst Coaches he can, a new S&C Coach, a new DL Coach, a new DB Coach and a new DC. Those are just the ones I think must go. The problem is few coaches are going to want to come here if it's Spurrier's last year, so he's going to have to convince some people that he's in this for another 4-5 years.

3. Spurrier decides to retire. He had an amazing career, he helped us achieve our greatest height, but he recognizes he can't get it done anymore and recruiting and the games are drastically suffering.

4. Ray makes the move, and we move forward. Spurrier wants to stay with the Asst Coaches, but Ray decides against it and either convinces Spurrier to 'retire' or actually fires him. I think Ray actually firing him is the least likely scenario. Ray goes out and gets a 'Chip Kelly' level hire. Not necessarily Chip, but definitely a HC 99% of the fans are excited about. A Homerun hire.

5. Ray makes the move and we take a step backwards. Just b/c we get a new HC, doesn't mean instant success. There are several coaches like Fuente (I've decided recently) or Strong who would be big steps backwards. We fall back to the shite years, even with all the new facilities and success (that we did at least have in the past 6 years.) I don't think Ray and the BOT are going to let this happen. I've heard we're willing to go up to $6+M to get the right staff in here. With the new facilities a HC as an AD and all the $ we have, we shouldn't have to even fathom this direction...but it could happen. (We won't know for 2-3 years though.)

So those are the 5 directions, we're going 1 of these 5 ways, hopefully the people in charge make the right decisions.

The only one that will have a happy ending would be 3. Staying the same would set us back even further. As you said, no decent asst. coach worth a damn is going to hitch their job to a then 71 year old coach who hates to recruit. If we have to fire Spurrier that will be a stain that will stay with us for years.

Spurrier needs to be honest with himself, and step away and allow the school to move on without all the drama of firing a HOF coach. I think he will do that.

I think he will, so long as Tanner or someone else doesn't try to talk him in to staying. I think he wanted to go out last year, but was talked into coming back. Hopefully, the heavy influencers keep their mouths shut. He's lost the fire that he had just a few years ago, and the team is responding in kind.

Spot on. Spurrier always speaks his mind, so when he made the 2-3 year comment, that's probably how he felt and he sure looks that way on the sideline.

We're in a pickle, that's for sure.

But then again, this is usually the way it goes. Coaches very very rarely go-out on a good note. Not even Hall of Fame Coaches who have done magnificent jobs and who we owe a great deal to ... it still happens like this unfortunately.

It'll be sad to see him leave after a season like this. Wanted to see him go out on a good note.
