Turns out the last basketball game he called was a warmup for his new job. South Carolina play-by-play man Andy Demetra, who has broadcast Gamecock men’s basketball and baseball since 2009 and said two of the most famous lines in USC radio history, is taking over play-by-play duties at Georgia Tech, a source close to the situation confirmed on Monday. Demetra replaces Brandon Gaudin, who left Tech in June to be the new voice for the EA Madden video game franchise.

At Tech, Demetra will take over football play-by-play besides basketball. The Jackets’ first game this year is facing Boston College in Dublin, Ireland.

Andy Demetra should have been calling South Carolina football games.

I don't really listen to a lot of our games on the radio, so I don't know Andy Demetra's work that well. I remember him from calling some baseball games before the SECN/SECN+/ESPN started broadcasting the games more.

So I'm happy for Andy if that's what he wants, I really won't even notice he's gone though, personally. We'll get someone else. Also, I like Todd Ellis, he's one of the only announcers that really knows about the mythical 55 yard line.

I must respectfully disagree, he's loud and obnoxious.

I think it is kind of weird that we don't have a professional play-by-play guy calling football games. I mean, we aren't some backwoods Division II school.

Unfortunately I think that the University will let Todd Ellis do radio as long as he wishes. It may be a while before we get a new voice in the press box.

it's obscene what she's allowed to happen to the microphone "The Voice" sat behind from 1952-1995, sans 2 years over on the Flats at Tech in the 60's before he came home again. those of us who grew up listening to Fulton for decades painting images of Carolina football over radio suffer the most.

in 5 years we'll be talking about why USC alum Brad Muller joined Mike Morgan/Andy Demetra and left to take a radio/media job at another school while Todd is still frustrating/confusing listeners with basic down/distance/situations calling radio PxP.

the vicious cycle will continue...

Andy's biggest void will be all of the content he produced/provided from 3 hour football radio pregames, social media and coaches shows. he was excellent in that regard.

I was wondering why Andy would leave us for GT when I saw the headline, but I see he gets to do their football games. I can't say I know what he wants his career path to be, but that is undoubtedly a step up.

Agreed. Todd and Tommy should be dual color guys. Hire a pro to do the PxP.

Demetra was great for basketball and baseball.

wasn't Charlie Mac a pro. Nobody liked him because he wasn't a homer.
Now we have a homer thats not a pro and nobody likes him.

I can't explain it because I am in this boat. We were spoiled for a bunch of years. Its kind of disappointing that my kids will never understand the joys of sports on the radio. Not sure we will ever hear a Fulton, Phillips, or Munson again. I am sure there are some just as talented but the times will keep them from becoming iconic.

I Don't mind Ellis so much probably because I keep D&D in my head. Tommy bogs down the broadcast so much though.

I agree Andy Demetra had the clearer more professional voice and I'm sure he is looking at getting into the broadcast booth in front of the cameras one day. Wish him the best in his journey but I kinda like the Old Homer feel to Ellis he gets all excited and flustered, ya'know like a true Gamecock fan does throughout the game.

I'm so happy he is gone and I know it may not be popular opinion. Andy Demetra may seem to come off as he was a genuine person but he was all Andy. I don't know how many times he has cut his partner off with a stat line to just hear his voice. Andy Demetra was the voice of Andy Demetra not the University of South Carolina Gamecocks he got lucky on a few calls, a la Whit and Wingo. Without them do we care about him, frick NO. Mike Morgan was 100x the pbp guy Andy ever dreamed of being, so I say good riddance. He will go down as a footnote.

Charlie and his "Garnet 6" had to "kiss & hug the one's it loved" goodbye, thankfully, one final time in May 2003. 8 seasons...
