Looking forward to seeing what kind of team this year's will be. We lost a lot w/ our bigs & Carrera but hopefully Silva can stay out of foul trouble & Kostar can be active on the boards & play defense. Excited to see how much Dozier has improved. He played good imo as a freshman last year. He showed you flashes of how much potential he has. Expect big things from him this year. Thornwell & Notice are the rocks this year. Notice will get more PT not coming off the bench. When him & Sin are hitting their shots they're almost unguardable because of their ability to put the ball on the floor & make plays driving it. Gonna be a fun year to watch.

Thanks for starting this thread, CayceCock13!!

I liked the game we played versus LA-Tech (we won 85-76): we played more up-tempo and with a quicker pace which Coach Martin said we would. We shot the ball fairly well, and shot VERY well from the 3-pt line (50% - 9-18).

Our bigs started out struggling with Silva, Kotsar, and Gueye picking up 2 early fouls each missing a lot of minutes. I saw some good things from the youngsters, especially in Kotsar who made plays all over the floor stealing one ball and slapping another one away from behind when LA-Tech was on a fast break. Gueye picked up 3 fouls in 1 minute of play, and was benched from then on. Gravett scored 7 1st half pts and 0 in the 2nd half, but he too showed his scoring capability hitting one from downtown.

Thornwell played very strong with 18 pts, and leading the team with 7 rebounds and 6 assists, and adding a block and a steal. Both Notice and Dozier combined to shoot 9-16 and 5-9 from the arc, and scored 17 pts each. Silva straightened himself out in the 2nd half to end up with 11 pts and 2 blocks.

Hopefully the young bigs improve on picking up the speed of the game and reduce the early fouling: I felt we could have dominated LA-Tech in rebounding, but didn't (we still held the edge 35-29) due to having to shuffle all our bigs in and out of the game with the fouling.

We need to improve on FT shooting a bit, but perhaps the one game isn't a good enough sample size yet.

We play Holy Cross tomorrow at 6 pm. It will be their season-opener. They lost 20 gms last season. Let's go Gamecocks!!

It appears Rakym Felder is back from suspension because he just entered and played his first collegiate minutes.

One thing that has jumped out to me in these first 2 games, PJ can shoot from distance. He looks like a totally different player so far this year.

Gamecocks win 81-49 to improve to 2-0. They'll conclude their 3 games in 5 days start to the season by hosting a tough and dangerous Monmouth on Tuesday night.

Thornwell led the team again with 20 pts: Dozier scored 15 pts, and McKie added 10 pts. The team shot 50% (12-24) from the 3-pt. arc, 59% (27-46) overall, and 94% (15-16) from the FT line. That's back-to-back games to open the season shooting 50% or better from 3-pt distance, and the team isn't being stingy on taking the shots either (21-42 thus far).

The team has a lot of height, athleticism, and quickness, and Coach Martin is looking to rotate everyone heavily, at least during the early part of the season. That will help the team be able to keep playing a physically overwhelming style of game once the SEC season kicks in...

They showed tremendous improvement from game one tonight ... their 3 pt shooting was threw the roof.

Yeah it's nice to see how well we've shot the basketball, one concerning thing that's jumped out at me is the fact our bigs have stayed in foul trouble a lot. Silva being the main one, he's got to be on the floor more to be at our best.

I was at the game tonight so I didn't get the benefit of instant replay, but it looked like a couple of the calls against Silva were really ticky tack bad calls.

We did everything in our power to give the game away. Perhaps Monmouth can say they played lousy at the beginning of each half, but we stormed out to huge leads in each with solid shooting and great defense.

Then each half devolved into stone cold shooting, poor FT shooting when we got a chance to add points to our lead despite the poor shooting, and non-stop fouling and turning the ball over.

We played very sloppy and kept Monmouth in the game, when we also showed glimpses of basketball that would have been a run-away route win for us. Real Jekyl and Hyde stuff.

The good thing is we still won and are still undefeated despite the poor play. So we live another day to hopefully improve from our mistakes without it costing us a loss. We got another game this Friday against SC State which should be an easier game. Should, I say.....

Someone able to provide some breakdown of the basketball team? So many players left from last year's team I know nothing about ya'll

Just things like
-Predictions for season
-Strength/weaknesses
-Key players
-What will make/break your season

Trying to gauge where all the SEC teams feel regarding their BBall teams, seems 6-7 teams feel like they could make pushes to top 4-5

Conway, 88, et al, will be able to help with that.

My take is that expectations are to dance in March.

Strength is our backcourt and our coach. Also, we will be known for tenacious defense once again.

Key players; Thornwell, Dozier, Silva, Notice

Our season will be made or broken depending upon how quickly a few of the new guys adapt and contribute in key situations as the season progresses. Oh, and depending upon how many times we put the ball through the hoop ... how many points we score, how good we are from the free throw line, etc.

I thought I read a preseason projection that y'all had some depth issues after the disciplinary judgments

If Dozier doesn't make the next step again, how big of a deal will that end up being?
