My thoughts:

A pretty sloppy game, especially in the first half. We cleaned it up a bit in the 2nd half until the final 2 minutes or so when it looked like we started relaxing and Allen kicked it up a notch and started stealing the ball away from us. We heavily rotated most of our youngsters so I can understand the sloppiness, although a number of our veterans were just as wild. I can see now why we scheduled such a weak OOC slate: we'll need those types of opponents to learn how to play under more control of ourselves.

We totally dominated in size and height, so the outrageous rebounding edge doesn't surprise me. I am however much pleased with Eric Cobb: he is the legit, true, real-deal, authentic back to the basket post player that this program hasn't truly had it seems for a hundred years. I saw several tuck-up-over-under post moves from Cobb of the Kevin McHale sort - many of which he missed, but it at least shows he knows the moves, or at least is trying to learn them. Moves which would be like learning Japaneses for 99% of our "post" players over the past 5-10 seasons. He also doesn't look hampered by weight at all - he is 6-10 and not 6-4 or 6-5, but he also doesn't look towards 290 like several reports when he came in. He actually looked under 270 to me. But he's a big rebounding CENTER who looked like he knows what it's all about!!! The world has changed....

I also liked Silva's efforts in the post and rebounding. Liked that Thornwell looks healthy and ready to play. Also pleased that Blanton looks like he can be a contributor this season, and looks like he has a high IQ and can do a lot of things on the floor.

Our shooting was lousy today: have that kind of size advantage and shoot 30%: another one of the reasons why we racked up a ton of rebounds. But it was a start and we did look much cleaner out of halftime, so it's progress.....

Thanks Conway!

So, no Dozier observations?

Really excited to read that about Cobb btw. We've needed that kind of low post presence for a long long time.

Freshman guard PJ Dozier added another seven rebounds. Dozier had an uneven debut, finishing with seven points, four assists and six turnovers, and nerves seemed to affect the local player more than the other freshmen.

"PJ is not going to go 2-56 or whatever he was today," head coach Frank Martin said. "Those guys were nervous."

One of the pleasant surprises of the game was the play of TeMarcus Blanton. The redshirt freshman missed all of last season with a hip injury. At one point during his recovery, there was concern he may never play again. Blanton entered the game late in the first half and made an immediate impact with a couple of rebounds, and even taking a charge to his injured hip. He finished with seven points, including 1-3 from behind the arc, and three rebounds. He played only six minutes as he continues to ease back into playing condition.

"It was one of the scariest moments of my life," Blanton said. "As soon as I got out there I was shaking. I couldn't feel my hands. To make an impact was a great feeling."

Sounds like there were a lot of nerves to go around.

I can't wait. This team seems like we might actually have some depth ready to go by January. We've not had that since Martin arrived here.

Isn't Clemson's old coach still at Depaul? I remember Clemson fans wondering why he'd leave a good run there to go to DePaul. If I'm not mistaken, the school is about the size of Clemson and I guess he was thinking Chicago is talent rich and he could get a good thing going there?

Haven't checked in a while but I don't think it has gone well for him there.

eta: Never mind. Should've done a quick wiki search. He was canned last year.

Over 16,000 on hand for the women tonight. Over 11k season tickets sold for the ladies, too.

Support like that is why Carolina fans are the best in the country.

Yep. And Dawn Staley does a fantastic job of acknowledging it, too. She's always on twitter giving a shout out to fans and she replies/retweets so you know she's seeing what fans have to say.

We have a legit shot at going over the 320k mark for total attendance, both programs (MBK and WBK) combined.

Now, I was told only Kentucky has ever done that in a single academic season at home.

Is it possible, or rather, is it realistic, for all four major sports to be profitable this year?

Most athletics departments are really only able to get football and men's basketball in the black. But I've got to think that the baseball program is pretty-much breakeven, and the women's program is currently outdrawing the men. Is is realistic for all four to turn a profit?
