So I guess we should have fired Gary Blair

Gary Blair's first two seasons at Texas A&M:

2003–2004
9–19 Overall, 2–14 Conference
2004–2005
16–15 Overall, 4–12 Conference

Billy Kennedy's first two seasons at Texas A&M:

2011-2012
14-18 Overall, 4-14 Conference
2012-2013 (in progress)
17-14 Overall, 7-11 Conference

And can you believe it took Blair EIGHT seasons to win a NC!!! How did he last that long? We obviously would have won six straight NC's with the next coach had he been fired.

FIRE KENNEDY!!!!111

re: So I guess we should have fired Gary Blair

Remind me again how great Peggy Gillom was before he took over for her?

How many NCAA tournament appearances?

Wait. Let me help you with that:

1. Peggy Gillom never had a winning season as A&M's basketball coach.

2. Gillom never went to the postseason in 5 years as head coach.

3. In year 2, Blair took the Lady Aggies to the Women's NIT quarterfinals, the first postseason appearance by the A&M women in NINE SEASONS and the lady Aggies' best record since 1995.

Billy Kennedy took a team that had been to the postseason SEVEN STRAIGHT SEASONS and, in just two short years, turned them into a loser.

In other words, your analogy completely and totally fails.

re: So I guess we should have fired Gary Blair

Oh, and let me remind you what each coach inherited:

Peggy Gillom (2002-2003): 10-18
Gary Blair (2003-2004): 9-19

Net change in year 1: -1

Mark Turgeon (2010-2011): 24-9
Billy Kennedy (2011-2012): 14-18

Net change in year 1: -9.5

It would be one thing if Kennedy inherited a team like Blair inherited...but he didn't.

Also, women's basketball is a nonrevenue sport. There are two revenue sports in college athletics: Football and Men's Basketball.

Let's be honest, we all know Turgeon was feeding off of BCG's leftovers.

How's he doing at Maryland again? Oh that's right, 8th in conference and now 7th in the conference this year. And that's after taking over a team from a RETIRING head coach that had a NC, a sweet sixteen, and six total tournament appearances in the past 10 years alone. Don't even try your "but they beat Duke!" crap cause all you do is talk about how random big wins don't matter with A&M coaches.

And? What does that have to do with winning? So now WBB success doesn't matter? You bitch about baseball all the time too.

20-11 this season.
17-15 last season.

17-15. That sounds familiar...that looks like Kennedy year TWO.

2-year record of 37-26 puts Turgeon on the HOT SEAT for year 3 at Maryland.

In contrast, a 2-year record of 31-32 means 8 more years for Kennedy according to you, right?

Do you seriously think that Kennedy would win more than 2 games in the ACC if he can't even win more than 7 in the 2013 SEC?

It does, but I thought that Kennedy was gifted with Turgeon's incredibly talented roster?

With Maryland's talent? Yes.

re: So I guess we should have fired Gary Blair

Here's the final coup de grace on this stupid argument.

Prior to taking over at A&M, Gary Blair had three combined years in which his team didn't make the postseason.

At SFA, he had:

-7 conference championships
-6 NCAA tournament appearances
-4 sweet 16 appearances

At Arkansas, he had:

-5 NCAA tournament appearances
-1 FINAL FOUR appearance

Blair's first season at A&M was his ONLY LOSING SEASON as a head coach.

There was a mountain of evidence that Blair was going to succeed.

Kennedy, on the other hand, made the POSTSEASON (not just the NCAA, the POSTSEASON) a grand total of 3 times in 15 years as a head coach. Winning seasons 8 out of 15 seasons.
