Top A&M Recruiting Misses of the Past 15 Years

According to ESPN Insider:
quote:

No. 1 Jorrie Adams, offensive tackle, 2003: At 6-foot-7, 275 pounds, Adams had an impressive offer list. In addition to A&M, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida and Miami (a team that was routinely putting out first-round NFL draft picks at the time) were among those that pursued the five-star tackle out of Jasper High School. The U.S. Army All-American with NFL size wound up playing defensive line as a freshman and was dismissed from the team in the summer of 2005 for violating team rules. He eventually wound up at Angelo State.

No. 2 Rod Davis, defensive tackle, 2008: The 6-2, 300-pound Davis was a ballyhooed recruit out of Houston Eisenhower, ranking No. 143 in the ESPN 150 and No. 6 nationally among defensive tackles. He was a signing day decision, choosing the Aggies over Texas. The Under Armour All-American originally chose the Aggies early in the process but reopened his recruitment after a coaching change. Florida was also among the schools that offered Davis in the recruiting process. Davis barely saw the field in two seasons at Texas A&M (including one redshirt year), transferred to Fort Scott Community College for a season then wound up at New Mexico for his final two seasons. He played in 22 games over two seasons for New Mexico.

No. 3 Jason Frederick, safety, 1999: He was one of the top recruits nationally at his position and one of the best overall prospects in Texas coming out of Houston Cypress Falls but he spent only one season at Texas A&M before transferring to Sam Houston State.

No. 4 William Morrisey, defensive tackle, 2004: The Silsbee High School product had offers from LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and Arkansas, among others. The 6-1, 285-pound highly ranked prospect redshirted his first season, had his redshirt freshman year cut short by an injury and by 2007 was no longer on the team.

No. 5 Kelvin Flood, outside linebacker, 2002: Considered one of the top players at his position coming out of Dallas Kimball, Flood had offers from schools like Georgia Tech, Penn State, Missouri and Maryland. The 6-2, 210-pound prospect did not find himself in the lineup in two seasons at Texas A&M before leaving the program.

Although I'm unsure about numbers 2-5, Jorrie Adams definitely belongs at the top. It's not like Fran signed many other 5-star recruits outside of Martellus Bennett.

Perhaps Ta Ta Thompson should be on this list as well.

How am I not the least bit surprised?

I'm going to presume that he got caught with the Devil's lettuce. Even if he remained on campus, he had Fran as a coach. The guy was screwed either way.

I'll make sure to pay him a visit the next time I find myself in Huntsville.

I wouldn't be too harsh on Vance Smith. He was highly rated but just got beat out for the starting job and played sparingly. It would be like calling Matt Joekel a huge miss or even Showers.

Adams and Rod Davis are definitely the Top 2. When we got Adams I was so pumped, he looked like the best OT prospect in Texas since Leonard Davis. What a waste. Davis was one of our very few head to head wins against Mack back then so it was depressing that he was such a bust as well.

Actually the most depressing thing about this list is over the last 15 years we don't have nearly enough 4 and 5 stars to make a good list, glad that is changing. It's nice to feel like we are bringing in 3 or 4 guys who are all highly rated at most positions so a bust or two doesn't really hurt. Too often in the past it felt like all our hopes were on one or two players.

Ta Ta's book is priced to sell online for only $9.99.

quote:

Born Again

A seed that was once never thought of
was quickly threw into an egg from which the flesh came from
like a baby rose with the soil but obviously something missin’
like a new born baby suffering from malnutrition the innocence is there
but without the proper care
this diamond in the dirt can’t flourish into something beuatiful and rare

but through the shadows of the darkness
a burst of courage
the will to get off the sofa to support the surge God will always be there for you
if you’re there for yourself
if your ambition’s with the currency, then seize the wealth
see the seed represents the thought of having money
being free
free from any kind of struggle
whatever fits your history

Feel Me

Ya’ll gotta feel me
Feel what I’m saying
But most importantly
Hear me
These writings are self reflections
Real life situations with real life meaning
Soak these words up
And let loose with understanding
I don’t wanna be ignored
I just wanna be felt
Just an appreciation for the ink I eject
I’m no movie star
The least bit of an entertainer
But a kid with a gift
That I can’t wait to open in a positive manner
These days go so quickly
I rise and fall with the sun
I just wanna be felt
Is that too much to ask of?
So you take a look
and tell me what you think
If all goes well… I’ll someday be on the brink
