| 10 game conference schedule (Posted on 1/28/13 at 1:29 pm)
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/eye-on-college-football/21620853/big-ten-discussing-ninegame-possibly-10game-conference-schedule The B1G is pondering it. Given the demands of a conference network, do you think the SEC is going to have to fall in line? Once one network sets the model for content, I think you have to. 6 Division games 1 permanent cross division game 3 rotating cross division games You play the full gauntlet of SEC teams, home and away, in exactly 4 years.

I would prefer a 9 game conference schedule. 6 Division games 1 permanent cross division game 2 rotating cross division games

13 (or 15 if there is expansion) game SEC schedule, play everyone once and crown a champ at the end. Or, play 7 division games and then have an SEC football tournament.

Although I'm not a proponent of expanding our conference schedule, the SEC should do whatever it takes to force the Gumps to play quality East division opponents.

No thanks. Not only does it kill all decent OOC match-ups(no SEC team is going to schedule a marquee OOC game when they have 10 SEC games to grind through), but it also makes it more difficult to win a NC. With a 10 game SEC slate, the SEC Champ would routinely have as many as 3 losses, which will just give the committee an excuse to exclude SEC teams from the playoffs over teams with better records from weaker conferences. I can see 9 conference games, but not 10. No thanks!

I have heard arguments for and against 9 game schedules, and I am now for it. SEC teams can schedule home-and-homes in a way that when they have 4 conference home games, they have their OOC game at home too so that there is a consistent number of home games. In years, they have 5 home conference games, they can either do an away OOC game or a neutral site game. ETA: 10 is too many.

If the SEC goes to 16 it'll def be a 10 game in conf schedule and at the Gumps complaining about more conference games It'll be ok, Georgia Southern can find someone else to play

I'd prefer an 8 game conference schedule with 4 pod 16 team leagues. You'd get up to two more conference games as the division winners played each other and have the scheduling flexibility to play real teams out of conference You'd also be able to play every team in the conference home and away at least once every six years. Even if you went to 10 conference games you'd take longer to do that with 8 team divisions and one fixed opposite division opponent.

I had much rather see more SEC teams on the schedule instead of the sacrificial lambs typically brought to BDS. I hope they at least go to 9 games.

As far as getting teams eligible for bowl games play? Ten conference games it would be a small disadvantage - that's 80 guaranteed losses on the schedule per year for the conference A mid level SEC team could get a tough draw, win both out of conference games and not even be bowl eligible

When you posted this, 3 Alabama fans had posted, and 2 were for more conference games. The third simple said no thanks to 10 games and did not comment on 9 games. Think before you post.

At first glance I thought this was crazy, but with super conferences coming..... Picture the future playoffs where there are 4 superconferences, one slot for each champ. (Yes, I know this is not how they are setup now. But we don't have superconferences yet either) In such a world, OOC records become meaningless. So does a poll system for the most part. TV ratings for cupcake OOC games drop; they become like the NFL preseason.

I get the joke, but just so everyone knows the real story Saban has actually lobbied for a 9 game conference schedule.

"lobbied" is a far cry from the generic coach speak that comes out of his mouth. He also has said he doesn't think you should play anyone outside of BCS conferences, yet Colorado State, Georgia State, and Chattanooga are still on the schedule...
