| All of this talk about Notre Dame's rushing defense (Posted on 12/29/12 at 6:38 am)
reminds me of all the talk about the Texas rushing defense in 2009. Texas was ranked #1 against the run in 2009 and Bama ran for over 200 yards against them in the BCS NCG. If you look at the teams Notre Dame has faced, they really haven't played many teams with good rushing offenses. Rushing offense rank Navy- 6 Michigan- 40 Stanford- 51 Oklahoma- 59 Purdue- 59 USC- 66 BYU- 69 Michigan State- 73 Miami- 84 Pittsburgh- 92 Wake Forest- 116 Boston College- 119 I hope Nussmeier doesn't try to throw the ball more against Notre Dame due to the reputation of their rushing defense. One of the few things I liked about McElwain is that he pounded the ball on the ground when it was working. Ingram and Richardson ran the ball 20 times in the first half and 41 times overall against Texas. I want to see similar numbers against Notre Dame. If Bama really commits to the running game, I just have a hard time seeing Notre Dame stopping it.

Yep. Run, run, and run some more. Use the run to set up play action pass just to keep them honest.

Like I said before, Lacy/Yeldon will put up big numbers.

Lacey and Yeldon will both go over 100 yards, probably by a good bit. Bama will also score on two long play action passes set up when the OL begins to wear down and dominate the ND front seven and the ND safeties are forced to cheat up to contain the run. Prediction: Gumps 31 Golden Domers 13

Texas would have beat you if McCoy doesn't get hurt. Not a good example.

Bama will bitchslap Nueter Dame and will leave Manti with treadmarks on his chest from Yeldon and Lacey....way way way way overrated defense and if any SEC school had that playlot schedule they could claim how good their defense was.

Yeah, I do not think that is a good example. Texas had to play practically the entire game with a qb who had never played before. The UT offense was 3 and out over and over and over for a long time with their D on the field and bama constantly running to protect the lead. Bama ran 51 times for 205 yards and 49 of those came on one run from Trent. Take out that one run and you are looking at 50 attempts for 150 yards. Texas shut down bama's run pretty well.

Not this shite again.

Another indictment on Mack Brown's coaching and QB developing ability. Maybe if he hadn't played Colt McCoy deep into the 4th quarter of the majority of games that season, he would have given Gilbert adequate playing time...or MAYBE Gilbert was horribly fricking overrated to begin with.

Like it or not, it is true. Texas wins that game by 10+ with McCoy.

Time of possession: Alabama 33:39 Texas 26:21 Texas' opening drive started on the Alabama 37. They got all the way down to the ALABAMA 1 and had to kick a field goal. They then kicked an ONSIDE KICK, got down to the Alabama 25, and had to kick another field goal. Total plays, by team in the first quarter: Texas - 17 Alabama - 14 Score: Texas 6, Alabama 0 Total plays, by team in the first half: Alabama - 36 Texas - 30 Score: Alabama 24, Texas 6 Total plays, by team in the second half: Texas - 41 Alabama - 32 Total plays, by team, in the game: Texas - 71 Alabama - 68 Score: Alabama 37, Texas 21 So your argument about how "the defense was on the field the entire game" is also bull shite.

Total BS. Bama took it's foot of the gas at Halftime. If McCoy hadn't been hurt, Bama probably would have beaten them much worse.

Well, when bama scored all those points, Texas was going 3 and out over and over. And during that time bama ran a hell of a lot more plays than Texas. And a 7 minute gap in TOP is significant. Texas wins by 10 plus with McCoy. They were the better team with their starting qb.

Texas wouldn't even had been in the NC if Sam Bradford never got hurt during the regular season. Bama would have played Cincinnati and won by about 50 points. You can play the what if game all the time.

And now that we all agree Texas wins by a MINIMUM of 10 with McCoy (probably 14 or so), back to the original discussion. 51 rushes for 205 yards with 50 of them coming on one run is not a great or even very good rushing performance. Especially with two first round draft picks at rb and a great oline. Texas's rushing D was legit and did well in that game.
