according to Ponamsky you can't do this anymore. only option to get that many players in is gray shirt.
You can still do it, but I think there is a ceiling. You cant count back 10 kids, but I think the limit is 5-6.

Ponamsky is getting his info from sources at LSU, and there have been multiple reports that LSU compliance doesn't interpret the bylaws the same way as the rest of us that can read. Apparently LSU believes they can only take a max of 27, with Johnson and Fanaika being the only two that can count back.
Thanks Mot. But debating over how many is different from saying there can't be any. I can see where there is room for a lot of interpretation. I've always been a bit perplexed on exactly how the 85 is managed. I would also guess having someone signed and failing to qualify could also be an interpretive issue. For example can Johnson and Fanaika use the ship offers they had, or are those lost forever? In effect, Johnson and Fanaika would each essentially count for 2 spots under the lost forever scenario, and thus limit us to 27 real bodies.

There is no ceiling. You are limited by your numbers in comparison to the allowed numbers.

Should we expect a new one of these threads after each of our next two or three commits?

No. Why is it that newbie fans from Texas A&M have a better grasp on this stuff than a lot of SEC fans?

This is pretty simple: 2012 class had 19 signees, and 3 were back counted to 2011, leaving 16 initial counters. 25-16=9 initial counters that can be back counted from 2013 to 2012 class, as long as we have room under the 85 cap. We can actually sign over the cap, as long as we have only 85 by the August deadline. Therefore we can sign 25 summer/fall enrollees + 9 spring enrolless = 34 total commits. In addition, we have 3 grade risks and one commit that will likely sign with MLB after the draft, so we could commit another 4 guys now before culling the herd right before National Signing Day. HTH.
