| Everyone will be running the spread within 7 years (Posted on 12/1/12 at 11:43 am)
It's almost impossible to stop when executed right. This is a sea change like in the 80s-90's when everybody went to a pro set passing offense and all the option coaches were left in the dust. The rules have changed. HS quarterbacks are better than ever and come in ready to plug-and-play. the best athletes want to catch touchdowns, not play defense for the most part. Effing Baylor has been a top 5 offense the last two years recruiting mostly 2-star athletes. Here's a NY Times article about Mike Leach from 2005(it's long). He describes his philosophy and in a nut shell, when you bunch players together it's easier for the defense to make stops. When you spread everybody out you use more of the field and logic dictates the ball carrier will have more space to run before he encounters his first defender. Article
quote:
A coach cannot change the shape of the football field, but he can change its effective size. And if he can alter the environment, even slightly, he alters the environment's system of rewards and punishments. He can put 330-pound defensive linemen on the fast track to obsolescence and turn a pass-catching tailback into the holder of N.C.A.A. records.
quote:
They may or may not have been fatter - Leach insists they were - but their bodies were clearly designed for a different sort of football game than this frenetic one.

That cocksucking Ohio State coach proved it cannot work consistently in the SEC.

Actually I think he proved it does work. The Patriots run it in the NFL. Its worked just fine for them.

Just like the triple option. And the wishbone. And every other offensive scheme ever developed.

The Ball coach disagrees. I guess you are saying Johnny Football is a system QB. Oregon gets stopped ever time they play a real Defense. If this was the case Big 12 and Pac 12 would be the top conferences.

Not everyone but a lot more teams will be, a couple of traditional power running teams will as well. Also at people comparing the spread to the wishbone and triple o.

False. Yes there will be a couple more big time programs that run it, but to say everyone is short sided. The spread offense is not some revelation from the past couple of years. There have been lots of variations of it in the past 20 years, some successful and some not.

This is more evidence that Alabama needs to save college football by winning a third national championship in four years with a pro-style offense.
