...couldnot be any more polar opposite. I can remember 20 wins (18 or even 19) being a shoe in for SEC March Madness. Used to be 5 to 6 teams min. Has the level of quality dropped that much? Wow...

I think that the heavy emphasis on football by every school except Kentucky and Missouri has kept some of the premier coaches away. Another big thing is that recently the coaching turnover in the SEC has been huge, so there has not been much stability that is why Florida is so dominant right now. If you look apart from the SEC/Big East challenge, along with Kentucky and Florida, not many teams go out and play very good OOS schedules. To be quite honest apart from Floridaand Kentucky the recruiting has not been that great conference wide, but that is changing go look at the amount of ESPN 100 players going to SEC schools. It is changing, gurantee you in two years especially with the Big East no more the SEC will be on top.

Mid majors are taking at-large bids away from power conferences. Unlike football, mid majors can compete against the big boys b/c it doesn't take a ton of money. So many of the mid major teams are on TV these days that good players don't shy away from them. Mid majors are now getting to the final four.

I'd rather eliminate auto bids. Piss poor conferences like the SWAC does not deserve an auto bid. If the SWAC champion is good enough to get in, fine. But just awarding these schools a spot is a joke.

I agree...I would be a pissed off Tenn ALA KY fan right now. I get the Gonzagas and how they are much more dominant mid majors now but sh*t, you can't tell me that only 3 SEC teams worthy of the top65? I know the tourny is not set up like that anymore but it reeks of penalizing more competitive big conferences? Not cool and not interested in this tourney...

Just because a #1 seed blows out a #16 seed doesnt mean the #16 seed couldnt play with a lot of the at large bids from the big conferences. Small conference champions upset teams from big conferences pretty much every year.

The point is a team like Southern is not more deserving than bubble teams like Tenn or UK. Take the best 64 and be done with it. Nobody in their right mind thinks Southern is better.
